Pujols - Longoria deal

Postby MadMobius » Mon Jun 01, 2009 4:25 pm

Couple of things. This is a 9 player keeper league with a max of 6 on offense or pitching. We also have a 45 innings per week minimum to meet so a deep pitching staff is an absolute must.

Batting categories: Runs, Hits, 2b, HR, RBI, SB, BB, K, Avg.

This deal would be my Longoria/Gallardo for his Pujols.

Is this a deal that I should be jumping all over? It's Albert Frickin Pujols!!! All of my keeper batters though are over 30 years old and I'm starting to feel the pinch with declining skills. Pujols is obviously still the best batter out there but it's not like his production will completely out pace everyone in the league, Longoria included. I would never put so much faith in a young hitter but Longoria has matched his hype every step of the way and looks like a top 10 in any keeper format... than and that Tampa Bay club is just getting better.

I can definitely take the hit in losing Gallardo so that part of the deal doesn't bother me so much.

Thoughts?

It's Pujols, but the 3B hole is a bigger one to fill. If you can really afford to lose Gallardo in a keeper, I wouldn't argue though.

It may help to see my offense to know what my keeper situation looks like:

C - Posada
1b - Helton
2b - Utley (k)
3b - Longoria (k)
SS - Rollins (k)
OF - Ellsbury (k)
OF - Ordonez (k)
OF - Span
Util - Chipper (k)
Util - Lowell
Util - Blake
Bench - Ortiz (k)

David Ortiz has turned out to be the worst keeper in recent memory but Ordonez and Chipper are on the way out as well. and of everyone listed, only Longoria and Ellsbury are sub 30 year olds.

bump... any thoughts on how to proceed?

The guy with Pujols seems "shocked" that I wouldn't jump on that deal...
