Edinson Vólquez

Even though he is on the Reds, is Edinson Vólquez a viable fantasy option. His K/9 and WHIP are nice but the team playing behind him might not do much for his ERA and the R support for W's is lacking. Is there hope he will post stats similar to last year?

His control was off before he went on the DL with "spasms." His walk rate is way up from last year (31 in 48 innings as opposed to 93 in 196) but batters are only hitting .185 against him. He needs to gets his control issues straightened out but he's got great stuff...

His numbers won't be what they were last year but he has great stuff. He could have an ERA around 4 with about 15 wins and 170 K's which is a solid fantasy pitcher...you also have to keep in mind the upside as he could outperform those numbers

All sounds about on par with what I had looked into. This year has been particularly hard to gauge players for some reason.

Thanks for the responses.

He just left the game one inning into his start off the DL tonight. Anyone have any info on what happened?

This is from the Reds official website tonight after he got taken out after one inning. Looks like its numbness in his fingers. At least its not his back again. Hope he's ok. I just traded him earlier today so Id feel bad if he misses much time.

Reds starter Edinson Volquez is hurt again. Volquez, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list to make Monday's start vs. the Cardinals, lasted only one inning and totaled 24 pitches (14 strikes) in his first game back.

The word from the clubhouse: Volquez left the game with numbness in the pinky and ring fingers of his right hand. He will be evaulated in Cincinnati on Tuesday by team medical director Dr. Tim Kremchek.

The Volquez line: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K. With one out, he gave up back-to-back doubles to Colby Rasmus and Albert Pujols (RBI hit). He was on the DL with back spasms and hadn't pitched since May 16 at San Diego.

In the past few days, Volquez had thrown two side bullpen sessions without any soreness.

Mike Lincoln took over for Volquez in the bottom of the second and this isn't what the bullpen needed after a couple of days of heavy activity and no days off until next Monday.

I'm no doctor, so take this with a grain of salt

Sounds like a nerve injury, most likely a pinched ulnar nerve. I hope he's ok.

Yeah, that is what I thought too. Could be alot more serious than a reinjured back.

This is more serious then his back imo. David Cone had numbness in the tips of his fingers and had a aneurysm(He claims it's because he threw too many pitches). Ian Kennedy had numbness in the tips of his fingers then it was revealed he has a shoulder aneurysm. Better hope it isn't the same with Volquez since the injury can be career ending and best case is he'd be able to toss a ball in 6-8 weeks, even longer before he can pitch.
