Alex Rios on Waivers

Postby Padres Fan » Sun May 31, 2009 12:44 pm

I saw that Alex Rios is on waivers and normally I would grab him no problem, but seemed backlogged at OF, I have one pitching spot that I use as my daily drop, especially if none of my other pitchers are playing, but since picking up BJ Upton off waivers and grabbing Luke Scott since he is dropping bombs I am having a hard time trying to figure about Rios.

my team (Yahoo 12 team standard Roto, non keeper)

1B-Albert Pujols
2B-Dustin Pedroia
3B-Casey Blake
SS-Ben Zobrist
OF-Luke Scott

BN-BJ Upton
BN-Adam Lind
DL-Jason Bartlett

SP-Jake Peavey
SP-James Shields
RP-Joe Nathan
RP-Heath Bell
P-Jonathan Broxton

It's hard to say. I think Rios has played way below expectations this year. I dont think Luke scott will continue at this pace, but at this point I'd just leave Rios where he is.

I could grab Rios for my roving pitching spot, then trade Lind or Upton and Scott, for a better SS and SP, would this be a better Idea?

No one is going to pay anything decent for Luke Scott. He's better used as a kicker in a deal with other big names.

Drop BJ and pick up Rios. Rios is a 5 cat stud. BJ has lost his job to Downs and now that we're sure Downs hammy injury isn't an issue it's safe to drop him again. Worry about your OF logjam later.

I completely agree with this post. Eventually Rios will heat up and when he does, he'll help you out in every offensive category. Meanwhile, Scott Downs has been lights out and I don't really see him losing his closer job any time soon.

I have never been a big Rios fan, and for some reason, I think Scott may produce better than some people think (although obviously will cool off from here). The other thing I try to avoid is logjams at positions...I know you get advice to try to trade some of the players, but my experience has been that other owners see your logjam and know you have to trade, so they lowball you. I would probably stay with what you have.

Also, thanks for help on mine.
