Huge trade to land Webb in 20 team dynasty...WHIR!

Postby jmlevy » Sun May 31, 2009 11:25 am

20 team dynasty H2H; 6x6 w/OPS & Holds; 22 ML keepers, 12-man farm; currently residing in FIRST PLACE, 1 game ahead of 2nd

C- Salty
1B - Morneau
2B - Hudson
3B - Blalock
SS - Renteria
LF - Holliday
CF - Werth
RF - Ethier
UTIL - Salty, Winn, K Johnson, Teahen
DL - Aviles

SP - Niemann (TB), Pelfrey (NYM), Johan (NYM), Slowey (MIN), Cahill (OAK), Blackburn (MIN), Maine (NYM), Westbrook (DL), Duchscherer (DL)
RP - Sherrill (BAL), F Francisco (TEX), Ziegler (OAK), Troncosco LAD), Putz (NYM), A Guzman (CHC)

Farm Club:
1 - Brignac, Reid (10 AB – SS - TB)
2 - Fox, Jake (0 AB - RF - CHC)
3 - Hicks, Aaron (0 AB - OF - Min)
4 - Joyce, Matt (demotion - LF/RF - TB)
5 - LaPorta, Matt (42 AB - 1B/LF - Cle)
6 - Main, Michael (0 IP - SP - Tex)
7 - McDonald, James (24.2 IP – SP/RP - LAD)
8 - Medlen, Kris (3 IP - SP/RP - Atl)
9 - Thompson, Daryl (14.1 IP – SP - Cin)
10 - Weglarz, Nick (0 AB - OF/1B - Cle)
11 - Westmoreland, Ryan (0 AB - OF - Bos)
12 - Villalona, Angel (0 AB - 3B - SF)

I have been proposed the following offer by another manager:

I send: Morneau, Slowey, Pelfrey

in exchange for his: C Pena, B Webb, E Mujica and J Arrieta

Now, I love the thought of landing Webb. I have been looking for power, and I consider Pena on par with Morneau in that category. However, I believe that the downgrade from Morneau to Pena would be easily offset by the upgrade from Slowey to Webb (if he gets healthy).

However, I have no use for Mujica, and therefore am considering countering with the following offer:

I send: Morneau, K Johnson, Slowey, Pelfrey

I receive: C Pena, Webb, Outman and Arrieta

What are your thoughts on this counter offer? I feel my rotation would take a hit in the short-term, but will be better off in the long-term. However, as I am currently sitting in first place in the league, I am focusing on the wrong timeframe; should I not be pushing for the right player or two to put me in immediate contention for the title this year? I love Webb, but the fact is the kid won't make it back before ASB, which doesn't help me until the latter half of this year.

Thoughts? Any other counters? Feel free to leave a link!

Outman's been too good for him to take that trade.. if you want a decent shot at making that happen, I'd wait until Outman has at least one bad start before offering it. As an Outman owner I can tell you, his perceived value is very high right now. If you can get it done though, it's a great deal for you.

I think it's worth a shot. I mean you're giving up the best player in the deal, so I can't imagine him not taking a hard look at it. I think Pena is a fine replacement in a H2H league and it definitely helps your rotation in the long run. If you're in first now I can't imagine you dropping out of the playoffs by taking the short term hit, and as long as Webb gets healthy then you should be set up better for the playoffs.

Good luck.
