I've been shopping Mauer around trying to get some pitching since I also have Posada and Weiters but good pitching seems to very hard to come by in my league - Am I giving up too much for Peavy? This is a one year CBS standard H2H points league and my team is included below.
EDIT - should I be worried at all about this ankle issue that he has?
OF/U - Carlos Beltran, Alfonso Soriano, Carlos Lee, Magglio Ordonez C - Joe Mauer 1B - Joey Votto 3B - Ryan Zimmerman 2B - Dustin Pedroia SS - Ben Zobrist
Bench - Jorge Posada, Mark Derosa, Matt Weiters
SP - Johan Santana, Brandon Webb, Roy Oswalt, Jon Lester, Chris Volstad, Hiroki Kuroda, David Price RP - Joakim Soria, Trevor Hoffman
I think you can afford to lose Mauer, and getting Peavy would give you a pretty solid pitching staff, especially if Webb can come back and if Price is as good as advertised. If not for Wieters and Posada I would say hold off because of how good Mauer has been, but I say go for it
yes, i think b/c you have posada and wieters, mauer is great trade bait for you. i really think you could deal mauer for peavy in a one for one deal really. with as hot as mauer has been and with peavy's potential injury, i think it's fair. however, if that won't get it done, then throw in volstad.
I see if someone else will offer more, but, if not, I make this deal even if Mauer is worth a little more than Peavy if you need pitching. I just worry about Peavy getting dealt to a team that doesn't play in the Grand Canyon.
I would do that yeah. You have plenty of depth at catcher and you know Mauer will go on the DL again at some point anyway. Peavy will get traded to a contender eventually and be that much better.
