Mauer, Posada or Weiters for some pitching - WHIR

Postby Swagger » Sat May 30, 2009 1:01 pm

I have three catchers right now and I'm looking to off load one for some pitching. For some reason managers in my league are really reluctant to deal any of their pitchers. I have had these offers but I think I'm probably giving up too much:

Duke for Mauer
Wolf for Mauer
buerhle for Mauer

If you don't like these deals, any suggestions on who I could target? My Team is listed below and its a standard CBS H2H points league.

OF/U - Carlos Beltran, Alfonso Soriano, Carlos Lee, Magglio Ordonez
C - Joe Mauer
1B - Joey Votto
3B - Ryan Zimmerman
2B - Dustin Pedroia
SS - Ben Zobrist

Bench - Jorge Posada, Mark Derosa, Matt Weiters

SP - Johan Santana, Brandon Webb, Roy Oswalt, Jon Lester, Chris Volstad, Hiroki Kuroda, John Smoltz
RP - Joakim Soria, Trevor Hoffman
C-McCann
1B- P.Fielder
2B-Cano
3B-Longoria
SS-Hanley
OF-Crawford - Kemp - Upton
U- C. Beltran(OF)
SP-Kershaw, Halladay, Lester, T.Hunter, Liriano
RP-Papelbon - Rivera
Bench-Webb, Carmona, Vargas, L.Scott, Andrus

i wouldnt trade mauer for any of those. If anything Mauer is a sell high right now (he wont keep his current rate up, but i believe that it wont drop much). Catcher is a shallow position and Mauer is one of the elite. Try dealing Weiters while you can still bank on the hype. What pitchers do you have right now?

Mauer is the best catcher in the game...those owners must be damn fools if they think they can give up anything less than an Ace to get him away from you. I traded Mauer for Roy Halladay...not straight up, but those were the 2 main parts of the deal. Do NOT take any of those deals.

Find teams that are weak at C and go after their number 1 or 2 pitcher...after all, giving up offense for pitching is already more lopsided in favor of the bat simply because they are everyday players not once every 5 days.

Thanks guys!

My pitchers are listed at the bottom of the original post BTW, they are kind of tightly fit at the bottom so maybe not the easiest to see ;)

Those trade "offers" are of the slap-in-the-face variety. NO ONE in my main league would dare offer up that crud for the top catcher in the game. Randy Wolf for Joe Mauer? Are you absolutely sh!++in' me? DO NOT under any circumstance accept any of those offers. I might, might deal Posada for one of those guys, but not Mauer or Wieters. Actually I think Posada might have more value than just getting one of those guys back. It's debatable. You need to find a team that is weak at catcher (and since you have three of the better ones it shouldn't be too tough) and target an ace or at the very least a very strong #2 guy, if you are going to deal Mauer or Wieters and Posada should be able to net you a second-tier #2 or a really good #3 type. I'll tell you if I'm dealing away Mauer, then I need someone like Santana, Halladay, Greinke, Haren, Verlander, Lincecum, etc coming back my way. Otherwise, no thanks, I'll hang on to my All-Star catcher.

I'd try dealing Weiters. I'd definitely would hang onto Mauer unless I could get a top 5 pitcher for him. There aren't many catchers that will match his numbers especially now that he's got the power going. I don't think he'll drop off much. Posada is the other guy I'd deal, but I think the hype of Weiters will bring more in return.

well i feel really stupid for missing that. But yeah try dealing Weiters using his hype as a bargaining chip, if that doesnt work then try posada. Mauer is too valuable for anything less then a good ace.
