Matt Kemp for closer?

Postby Wolfken » Sat May 30, 2009 11:45 am

5X5 standard roto.
Theoritically I can get any closer I want because Matt Kemp's ADP is higher than any closers in the draft.
But things didn't went very well, as someone just rejected my Kemp for Papelbon trade.
Now I am targeting Joe Nathan, and want to know if I am ripped off if I offer Kemp for Nathan straight up.

keep kemp, dont trade offense for closers!

im sure many closers will lose their closing dutys through the rest of the season! pick them all up if you really need help at closer!

You got to find someone who needs an OF and who has a closer to spare...preferrably one who also has another stud closer. You're not going to be able to deal Kemp for Papelbon or Nathan if the other owner has four OF and one other closer. You've got to find the right partner.

That being said, unless you really really need it, I would not deal Kemp for a closer either....He's worth too much and closers aren't worth enough.

I don't really need it, but I have 6 OF battling for 4 spots
Adam Jones, Justin Upton are in their breakout year, but they won't get much in return because they don't have very high rank
Brad Hawpe is having a career year with bad rank so he also won't get much in return.
I will definitely be ripped off if I trade them for some low tier closers.
Jay Bruce is having an ugly AVG, but his power is for real, and I believe his AVG will go up.
If his AVG goes up, he will be an elite OF with his elite power.
That leaves me Carl Crawford and Matt Kemp to trade.
They have highest rank and will get most in return from some dumb players who only look at the ranks.
Carl Crawford is too good to be traded, so Kemp looks to be the best candidate.

The only spot I need other than CL is 3B.
I am using Branyan at that spot.
Although he is doing very well, I expect him to bat no more than 0.260 at the season end, because he is having way too high BABIP.
However, to get a better-than-Branyan 3B isn't that easy.
I think only Miguel Cabrera, A-rod, Longoria, and Zimmerman are undoubtedly better.
But they are very hard to trade even with Crawford+something package.
I think Matt Kemp for Zimmerman will probably be accepted, but the Zimmerman owner isn't very active...
And I am not very sure if Zimmerman worths me Kemp.
