Is this trade fair, and will it help?

Postby htmt519 » Fri May 29, 2009 10:40 pm

I am in a standard ESPN 5x5 league ... our league also adds quality starts and OPS to make it 6x6. Here's my team currently: Batters - Napoli, C. Pena, Cano, Huff, Rollins, Holliday, Damon, Hunter, Cuddyer, Rios, C. Jones, and Dye. Pitchers - W. Rodriguez, Cain, Gregg, Aardsma, Jurrjens, Lackey, Gallardo, Capps, Hanrahan, Lincecum, Hamels. We're in first place so far.

Made an offer to another team of Dye, Jurrjens, and Cain for Broxton, Felix Hernandez, and Brandon Phillips. My thoughts were that I'm really weak at closer and after my big three starters (Hamels, Lincecum and Lackey) I have guys that have been more lucky than good. I also needed to thin my OF herd ... I have 6 players eligible only in the OF. I will probably drop Phillips if this deal goes through. Their 2009 player ratings on ESPN.com are almost identical when summed.

Did I make a fair offer, and does it address my team's needs?

Honestly it's not really a fair offer.

King Felix > Cain
Broxton > Jurrjens
Phillips > Dye

I don't know why he would want to do it. He'd be taking a downgrade at SP, he'd lose one of the elite closers in the game, and he'd give up a top 5 second basemen. Certainly it would help your team if it works and it does address your needs, but you should be prepared to give more if you want to make it happen.

Thanks for the advice ... it's a starting point so hopefully we end up somewhere in the middle.

Anyone else?

Why would you drop Brandon Phillips? :O

I agree with the first reply; this trade doesn't really help you all that much and it's giving up an awful lot for an awful little.
