Lincecum Trade WHIR!

Postby skones » Fri May 29, 2009 9:09 pm

This is a 12 team h2h 6x6 (standard plus holds and ops) keeper league. (6 keepers)

Proposed Trade:
I give Tim Lincecum and Mike Cameron
I receive Dustin Pedroia and Javier Vazquez

My Team:
C: Russell Martin
1B: Aubrey Huff
2B: Adam Kennedy
3B: David Wright
SS: Michael Young
OF: Carlos Beltran
OF: Justin Upton
OF: BJ Upton
Util: Mike Cameron
Util: Adam Laroche
Bench: Howie Kendrick
Bench: Stephen Drew

SP: Tim Lincecum
SP: Derek Lowe
SP: Ted Lilly
P: Joel Zumaya
P: Dan Meyer
P: Juan Cruz
P: Carlos Villanueva
RP: Scott Downs
RP: Mike Gonzalez
RP: Brad Ziegler
Bench: Chris Young
Bench: Edwin Jackson
Bench: Ubaldo Jimenez

My Thinking:
Im not comfortable at all with having a pitcher I have to keep year after year. Injuries happen and completely derail careers, overworked players hit unpredictable declines, etc. This is where Lincecum comes in. I realize he's an all world talent and likely will lead the league in strikeouts, but in return I get a top tier 2B which is obviously a position of weakness on my team. I also receive a pitcher in Vazquez, while not spectacular, very very undervalued. He's a guy who can go out and get me around 15 wins, hold down an ERA right around 4, and strikeout a ton of guys. My pitching is already very very good, and getting a guy like Vazquez allows it to stay that way while taking a minimal hit in the strikeout department. In Cameron, I sell high as he'll end up hitting 20-30 points lower than he is now. He's also not running as Ken Macha's philosophy is station to station baserunning with minimal risk involved. I don't think he steals 10 bases this season let alone the 20 we all know he's capable of.

Thoughts?

Solid value, but I think Pedroia is grossly overrated. I mean, is he really any better then Brian Roberts? That means he's more along the lines of a 3rd round pick. I'd rather have Lineceum...even in a keeper league. If you're determined to trade him for a MI I would target Utley or Kinsler. I like them MUCH more then Perdroia.

Help with mine plz - viewtopic.php?t=387665

I would pass on that trade. Lincecum is the key to your entire staff. I would maybe try to deal a different pitcher for a lesser 2B. Try to upgrade at that position, but you don't need to sacrifice your staff to get one the best 2B, when that position is thin throughout the entire league anyways. Cameron is also putting up solid numbers, u might be able to just deal him for a middle tiered 2B or SP.

Lince is way too good to trde for Vaz and Pedroia. Wihout him your staff is a bunch of number 2-3 guys. Lets put it htis way, I'd rather be the guy getting Lince.

No. Keep Lincecum. He is way too valuable to your staff.

Don't even think about trading Lince :( Your team would fall apart.
