Holliday/Hudson for Billingsley/BJ Upton

Postby Dalingh » Thu May 28, 2009 5:34 pm

I am in desperate need of an ace. I recently picked up Carlos Quentin off of waivers, so that makes Holliday a little more expendable for me. I'm willing to wait until CQ gets healthy. I'm pretty thin at SP, Bedard is attempting to be an ace for me, but I don't trust him for the long haul of the season. Anyways, I have proposed the following deal. Am I giving up too much?

Give: Holliday/O. Hudson

Get: Billingsley/BJ Upton

Hudson/Upton make or break this deal. Hudson could very easily continue his hot hitting, especially once Man-Ram comes back. Will Upton snap out of it???

My Team:

C Russell Martin (LAD - C,3B)
1B Miguel Cabrera (Det - 1B,3B)
2B Chase Utley (Phi - 2B)
3B Kevin Youkilis (Bos - 1B,3B)
SS Christian Guzman (Was - SS)
OF Carl Crawford (TB - OF)
OF Matt Holliday (Oak - OF)
OF Nelson Cruz (Tex - OF)
Util Orlando Hudson (LAD - 2B)
BN Carlos Quentin (ChW - OF)
BN Corey Hart (Mil - OF)
BN Aubrey Huff (Bal - 1B,3B)

BN Frank Francisco (Tex - RP)
BN Javier Vázquez (Atl - SP)
BN Jon Lester (Bos - SP)
BN Erik Bedard (Sea - SP)
BN James Shields (TB - SP)

As an Upton owner, I certainly hope he'll continue to raise he BA and start hitting for power.
O-Hud has been pretty amazing this season but the dude is 31 and performing above career averages. He's a good sell-high candidate for you and Upton is definitely a buy-low with (fingers crossed) great upside.

Going for Billingsley is a good move because the Dodgers are walking away with the division and he'll get wins and run support for certain.

I definitely say go for it!

Holliday's having a mediocre year - a tough time adjusting to Oakland potentially so he might turn it on later on, but I just don't see him having a monstrous year. Billingsley is a BEAST. Let's face it: BJ Upton will not end up batting 165 or whatever he is right now. He'll end up batting at least 275, and for that to happen he has to bat decently the rest of the year - just look at the success his brother is having right now. Then when you have Orlando Hudson...sure, he's good: but can he really end up being better than Upton from this point forward? I doubt it. Upton will be looking to steal a lot more since Akinori is gone, thus giving you more SB and Runs. I'd definitely say go for it - in your league, pitching is very valuable. And Holliday is a BUST - you're getting great value for him.

Good luck, and some help would be really appreciated!

Yep, I'd do it. With Utley, Hudson is utility for you, at best. And there are better utility options, so he's good trade bait to someone who needs a good 2B. Holliday was bound to fall off this year, after leaving COL. As another post said, Upton is a good buy-low option. And Billingsley is a big plus.

Help with mine?

UPDATE.

The other owner said no go on Upton, but he'd trade Granderson instead. Thoughts on swapping Granderson with Upton? He previously said he'd do Burnett for Hudson straight up, but I've had my target set on Billingsley.

His team is below.

C Brian McCann (Atl - C)
1B Albert Pujols (StL - 1B)
2B Adam Kennedy (Oak - 2B,OF)
3B Mark Reynolds (Ari - 1B,3B)
SS Asdrubal Cabrera (Cle - 2B,SS)
OF B.J. Upton (TB - OF)
OF Andre Ethier (LAD - OF)
OF Curtis Granderson (Det - OF)
Util Todd Helton (Col - 1B)
BN Mike Napoli (LAA - C)
BN Jorge Cantú (Fla - 1B,3B)
BN Rafael Furcal (LAD - SS)
BN Adam Lind (Tor - OF)
BN Luke Scott (Bal - OF)
DL Ryan Ludwick (StL - OF)DL

SP CC Sabathia (NYY - SP)
RP David Aardsma (Sea - RP)
RP Huston Street (Col - RP)
P Chad Billingsley (LAD - SP)
P Jair Jurrjens (Atl - SP)
BN A.J. Burnett (NYY - SP)
BN Ted Lilly (ChC - SP)
BN David Price (TB - SP)
BN Rick Porcello (Det - SP,RP)
C Montero

2B F. Lopez
3B A-Rod

OF Holliday

I'd still do it with Granderson instead of BJ Upton. You're trading from your strengths (OF & 2B) and you'll still be strong in the OF afterwards. But I like Billingsley and Grandy (even though I just dealt him with Sherrill to pick up Braun), so I may be allowing personal feeling to enter the equation...

I like this trade for you. BJ Upton is a great buy low with huge upside if he can turn it around and Billingsley is a very good pitcher.
