In my dynasty league, I did just that, trading picks 17 and 18 as well as Alvarez to move up to 1 (also getting pick 28 and Schafer) to select Posey. Smoak is a better hitter, but Posey's catcher eligibility gives him the win in my eyes.
I'm also a fan of Santana and M. Ramirez. I know Ramirez had a rough start to the season, but Im blaming that on missing ST and sitting on the bench during the WBC.

Obviously thats a big if, but I think he at least makes it up as a Catcher, and any change would be later in the career. I know I am in the process of talking his owner into cutting him and keeping an overrated (imho) Skipworth.

The catching depth looks very strong for the next 5 - 7 years.
If the Yanks keep him at Catcher, I'll go with Jesus Montero for fantasy purposes. His power and advanced hitting at his age is impressive, and I don't have to take anything away defensively from him since it doesn't matter.
