Ok so my slightly psychotic friend has offered me this trade and it's expiring at 2 am, so I have til then to decide whether I want to do it or not:
His: Hanley, Joba, Lind for My: VMart, Billingsley, Pierre
12-team mixed, standard cats, My roster:
C: VMart 1B: Howard 2B: As. Cabrera SS: Furcal (yech) 3B: MCab OF: Soriano OF: Holliday OF: Ludwick (when he comes back)_ Util: Cruz Util: Pierre Util: Hart Bench: Wieters (will replace VMart) Bench: Hardy (equally yech as Furcal, will probably get dropped if I get Hanley)
I'm currently in 9th place but I'm starting a climb back up.
Reasons I might do the trade: 1) I get Hanley, and don't have to start Furcal or Hardy anymore 2) I am a believer in Wieters and am ready to risk my fantasy team on his future (I think he will be capable filling in for VMart) 3) I love hitting, and my lineup post-trade has Howard, MCab, Hanley, Soriano, Holliday, Cruz, Ludwick, etc... it's awesome, esp. for a 12 team league 4) Hanley's steals will make up for the loss in Pierre, and I think Pierre will lose playing time when Manny comes back so I love getting value for him when he's hot right now
Reasons I might not do the trade: 1) Don't know if my pitching can compete without Bills 2) Is Hanley ok? I think so, but I'm wary 3) Not a big fan of Lind (although he'd be a decent third util, I guess) 4) May have a shot of simply trading VMart for Haren w/ someone else, which would make my pitching awesome and I think I like that deal more.. is it a better deal?
HELP ASAP PLEASE!!! This is why fantasy is fun - late night deals w/ deadlines. I'll help you if you help me! Thanks!!
I like the deal for you. Pierre will be just about useless to you when Manny returns, and that's when the league championship is decided. The dropoff from V-Mart to Wieters should not be that large at all - especially given V-Mart's injury tendency. And he can only get worse - he's in a slump now and I doubt he'll break out of it and see his average stay at 360. I predict a .320 year-end average for VMart, meaning an average of like 310 for the rest of the year. Billinglsey is having an incredible start...but it's early, and you really can't tell. And bats like Hanley, who puts up numbers week in and week out, and Lind, who can explode at any given week, in your lineup definitely don't hurt. And I think that Miguel Cabrera will win the AL MVP, he's just got to heat up. Your team, with Howard, Miggy, and Hanley, definitely seems improved. I'd pull the trigger - you can't pass up a hitter like Hanley. And it's a great sell on Juan Pierre/VMart, two players I feel will drop a lot come the end of the year.
WIth Wieters to come up Friday, Pierre to lose time in July with Manny's return, and the natural upside of Lind and Hanley, I say the only real downside here is losing Billingsley. But to get Hanley that seems worth the price of admission. Besides, Joba will get you a bunch of K's himself. Go for it.
Thanks for the quick help guys.. I think I'm gonna take it. I still welcome everyone else's opinions after I do the trade, just to see if I made the right move.
thx for the help w/ mine. Sorry i went to bed after i posted.
If the deal expired, the i would try to rekindle and try to get a SP back instead of Lind since, like you said, your OF is stacked and ur pitching would hurt.
or, if you took the deal, try to trade Link for a middle of the road SP.
