I am in a 5x5 Roto league, there are 12 teams in the league. I am currently in 3rd place, leading the league in HRS and 2nd in Stolen Bases. I am only 7th in RBI's and am looking to possibly get rid of some high profile players who aren't performing so well in the start of this season.
Not sure if it is too early to trade these guys, let me know what you think.
I would be trading: BJ Upton/Liriano/Goevany Soto
I would be getting: Cuddyer/Lester/Weiters
I think Weiters is gonna end up w/better #'s than soto so I like that part of the deal. Cuddyer is off to a good start, but obv Upton has a much higher potential, and liriano and lester are both guys who can put together solid stretches.
Here is the rest of my team C Barajas C Soto 1b Konerko 2b Cano 3B Chris Davis SS Hanley MI Andrus (it was rickie weeks) CI Mark Reynolds OF Eithier/Bruce/Upton/Elijah Dukes/Carlos Lee U Figgins
SP's Haren/Liriano/Kershaw/Brett Myers/Saunders/Edwin Jackson/Galaragga RP Gonzalez/Percival/Bj Ryan (2nd to last in saves, but can still comeback in that category)
Should I make that deal or focus on getting better pitchers? Or maybe improve on closers?
Man, thats a tough one... my first thought is that you are selling low on all three of the guys you are dealing... but you are buying low on Lester, IMO
I'm not a big Cuddyer fan, I think there are guys on the FA market that are just as valuable as he is, especially in a 12-team league.
If you believe the Wieter hype, then I can see why you'd do the deal... but rookies are unpredictable, even ones as hyped as Wieters. Jeff Clement was supposed to rake last yr, but he didnt.
I'd lean towards "no" in the end. I think you are selling low on all three of the guys you are dealing and gambling too much on what you are getting back.
I hear ya, I am just afraid that Soto was a one hit wonder and that Upton's surgery is going to effect him for most of the season! That was my reasoning for offering those big 3 names in 1 deal for those guys.
I don't particularly like this trade. Liriano and Lester seem relatively close in value to me as do Soto and Wieters, but I still have faith that BJ Upton will outproduce Cuddyer.
Like I said, its a really tough call... Upton and Soto are certainly doing pretty awful right now. This deal presents a lot of risk. It could be a heist for you, but could also bomb, if the three guys you are trading away turn it around and Wieters and Lester struggle. I'm not a big fan as I said of Cuddyer and I think the dude you are trading with is trying for the ultimate buy low trade, trading Wieters right when he is coming up for three talented but struggling players.
This is one of those trades where you have to ask yourself how patient you are willing to be with the three you are dealing and how much you believe the Wieters hype.
I think the real problem is that the buy-low on the others guys is lost in the sell-low of Upton... you could get more I think, even if he is struggling...

On its face, I like the deal for you. I have zero confidence in BJ this year for anything other than steals, Soto worries me, and I believe in Wieters.
But I think you can get more based on name recognition for BJ. This is a guy who went in rounds 2-4 in drafts. Aim a little higher and make it an even sweeter deal for you. But if you can't... I'd still take this one.
Stay where you are. I think Wieters will have better numbers than Soto. BJ Upton is a little over-hyped but I think he can turn it around and still be better than Cuddyer for the remainder of the season. Liriano...Just don't know about that guy anymore. It doesn't look good... But I wouldn't want to trade him with Upton.
