Is it time to cut Ian Stewart loose? WHIR

Postby BillyHallDisciple » Wed May 27, 2009 10:14 am

I've been waiting for him to either get regular playing time or lift his batting average north of .200, neither of which has happened.

This is a 12-team, 6x6 Keeper (w/OPS added for hitters), player values increase $5 per year with $220 cap which is the only reason I was even thinking of hanging onto him. But I need to win now and this guy's like dead weight. Thinking of dropping him for Hairston (Cin), Luis Castillo or Barmes for MI because that's the spot I need to fill this week while Phillips is hurting.

C RUSSELL MARTIN, LAD $11
1B PRINCE FIELDER, MIL $25
2B BRANDON PHILLIPS, CIN $17
3B DAVID WRIGHT, NYM $48
SS J.J. HARDY, MIL $11
CI HANK BLALOCK, TEX $1
MI AARON HILL, TOR $1
OF CARLOS LEE, HOU $26
OF JAY BRUCE, CIN $13
OF JACOBY ELLSBURY, BOS $12
OF ANDRE ETHIER, LAD $10
OF RANDY WINN, SF $1
UT MAT GAMEL, MIL $1
BN MATT WIETERS, BAL $13
BN IAN STEWART, CO $1

SP JUSTIN VERLANDER, DET $6
SP JERED WEAVER, LAA $2
SP UBALDO JIMENEZ, CO $2
SP AARON HARANG, CIN $1
SP RANDY WOLF, LAD $1
SP EDWIN JACKSON, DET $1
SP MARK BUEHRLE, CHW $1
RP HUSTON STREET, CO $1

DL JOSE VALVERDE, HOU $8
DL JOAKIM SORIA, KC $8
DL PAT BURRELL, TB $1

If those are your best pickup options, I'd hang with Stewart. He's already had one big week and could easily have a couple more before the break. If Phillips ends up going on the DL then yes I'd drop him for someone with regular playing time, but until that happens I'd hang with the upside guy for $1 rather than the pedestrain options on waivers.

Please help.

Id either keep him or pick up Hairston. He has been playing pretty solid this year. But like the other guy said, I'd wait to see what happens with Phillips. Go figure right when he starts playing well he injures himself lol

Can you help?

Thanks for the input guys... yeah sometimes the best move is no move at all. It sucks when you get to a point in the year where you've got 3-4 hitters banged up or day-to-day and not going to the DL. On top of that I have 3 guys who are essentially in platoons (Blalock, Stewart, Gamel) and in a H2H league like this you can lose a couple of categories because of it. That's why it's hard to be patient. But heh it's my fault for building my roster that way.

Yeah it does figure Phillips would finally get hot and then injured right in the middle of what would've definitely been a nice streak.
