Problems with my team...need help fixing! WHIR Promise!

Postby FantasyStud » Tue May 26, 2009 7:43 pm

My Keeper League team is posted below, 5x5 categories, 10 teams in the league. I'm tied for 3rd place, yet I trail the first place team by ~20 points, and now, my team has been hit by the injury bug.

C-Bengie Molina
1B-Ryan Howard
2B-Dan Uggla
SS-Jason Bartlett (DL)
3B-Mark Reynolds
OF-Magglio Ordonez
OF-Curtis Granderson
OF-Jacoby Ellsbury
OF-Johnny Damon
OF-Andre Ethier
UTL-Miguel Cabrera (only 1B eligible)
UTL-Shin-Soo Choo
BN-Jose Reyes (DL)
DL-Alex Gordon

P-CC Sabathia
P-Justin Verlander
P-Wandy Rodriguez
P-John Lackey
P-Ryan Dempster
P-Gil Meche
P-Mark Buehrle
P-Francisco Rodriguez
P-LaTroy Hawkins
BN-David Price
DL-Joakim Soria

Prospect-Carlos Carasco
Prospect-David Price
Prospect-Matt Wieters
Prospect-Dexter Fowler
Prospect-Brett Anderson
Prospect-Pedro Alvarez

On paper, my team looks good, but I am struggling so far, particularly in BA, Saves, ERA, and WHIP.

(a) I now have 4 players who are on the DL - Jason Bartlett, Jose Reyes, Joakim Soria, and Alex Gordon. Since my team only has 2 DL spots, keeping all 4 would put my bench at a disadvantage. Obviously, I'm not going to release Reyes or Soria, but should I drop Bartlett, Gordon, or both? (Keep in mind this is a 10-team Keeper League, and teams are allowed to keep up to 10 players at the end of the season. I don't think I would keep Gordon, especially since I own 3B rookie phenom Pedro Alvarez, however, he could prove to be valuable once he returns.

(b) Now that Bartlett and Reyes are down, I need a new SS. Available players include Marco Scutaro, Jhonny Peralta (currently on waivers), Orlando Cabrera, Christian Guzman, and Ben Zobrist. Which of these SS's should I pick up, and who should I drop?

(c) I thought that saves would be one of my strengths, but with Soria out and KRod potentially out now, I'm struggling there. So I obviously need a closer. I could probably pull off a deal along the lines of I get Bobby Jenks and another player for Andre Ethier, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Another team has 5 closers and wants to trade one - his best options are Jonathan Broxton and Mariano Rivera. I don't want to overpay for a closer, but even with a healthy Soria and KRod, I felt my team could benefit with a third closer. (Right now I have only 2 out of 10 points from saves). My question is, which of these closer trades should I make and who should I be willing to part with?

Post your link, and I'll DEFINITELY help you in return! I PROMISE! Thanks so much!!!!

I would drop Gordon

I also would advise trading Ethier for Broxton. The guy is VERY underrated and throws gas. He also gets ample opportunities, as well as coming into the game with a tie game, so he picks up those 5 wins he has.

Thanks, I agree with an Ethier for Broxton trade. I'm not sure if he'd be willing to do that, but I would.

If I were to drop Gordon, which SS should I add in return? Thanks!

I would drop Gordon, pick up Guzman to fill in and help with BA, and in a 10 team league, I would definitely try to add another closer - Jenks and another player for Ethier might not be bad, but of course Broxton should ne your #1 target - who are some of your top offensive guys on the wire to fill in for Ethier if you trade him

Thanks. Well with Matt Wieters being called up as of Friday, I could add him and use him in utility and move Choo to the OF to replace Ethier if I trade him in a deal for Broxton.

I haven't spoken to the other owner yet, but I guess my question now is, is Broxton for Ethier a good trade for me, where I get Broxton? Thanks!

Do Broxton for Ethier and is it head to head or Roto?

I would add Zobrist for Gordon. Zobrist has been doing great since 2007 ended. Lots of talk about him in Baseball Leftovers, all good stuff. If not him, Peralta is breaking out of his funk, hitting .385 last two weeks.

An Ethier for Broxton trade would be good value for you. I wouldn't mind selling high on Wandy right now either.

Help appreciated.

Thanks for helping me out. Sorry I did not get back to you sooner.

I would def. get Broxton. He is a/the best RP and is going to get alot of chances. I actually like Scutaro more than Zobrist b/c or his possition eligibility. But I would def. drop Gordon for either of them.
