Trade Phillips/Carpenter for Pedroia/F.Hernandez? WHIR

Postby jmcampbe11 » Tue May 26, 2009 6:36 pm

Looking for a boost in batting avg. Is Pedroia a good target (thoughts on the trade idea?) or would I be better off trading for aan As. Cabrera type player?

GIVE - Phillips/ Carpenter

GET - Pedroia/ F.Hernandez

For context, I drafted Phillips one round after Pedroia in this league. If you don't think I'm giving up enough what if I add on A.Gonzalez for Youkilis (getting Youkilis).

MY TEAM - 10 TEAM ROTO LEAGUE (We keep three players each season)
C-Martin
1b-A.Gonzalez 3b-Longoria
2b-Phillips ss-Alx.Ramirez
CI-Reynolds MI-Zobrist U-Crisp (or Reimold)
OF-Sizemore, Hamilton, Ad.Jones, Dye, V.Wells
SP-Greinke, Gallardo, Carpenter, Lilly, Jimenez, *Smotlz
RP-Broxton, Qualls, Isringhausan, Wheeler, *Percival

Phillips is white hot and Pedroia is a glorified Freddy Sanchez, I'd pass. Sure it would be nice getting a safe and healthy King Felix, but Carpenter (even taking into account his massive injury risk) is dialed in right now, and when healthy, probably a better pitcher in this format with only 3 keepers. I'd pass and try to move Mark Reynolds to help your BA by addition by subtraction essentially. His numbers look good, and you might get a good fetch for him, while also ditching a batting average killer. If you don't mind, I could use some help with mine, thanks in advance.

Please explain. In my opinion Pedroia is one of the most overrated fantasy players in the game. Absolutely no chance he approaches last year's power numbers.

I agree on Pedroia. I've actually shopped Reynolds without much luck. Any suggestions for comparable players (with better batting averages) I can target. I've already tried for Votto, Zimmerman, and even Huff, with no luck.

I like the deal as is ... Phillips average and injury concerns are not the greatest baggage, and Carpenter could go down again at any time IMO. Go with Pedroia/Felix without question here. Felix will rebound from this rough patch of late.

This is a solid deal for you. In my opinion, Pedroia > Phillips and Hernandez > Carpenter.

I think this trade is pretty even considering Carpenter could be out any time. If he stays healthy though you may end up wanting this one back.
