Ok, forget about the last post. I just made a trade.

I traded

Mike Piazza/Ramon Ortiz

FOR

Pedro Martinez/Shawn Green

He had offered Varitek, and I countered with Green. He accepted.

My thought process. See if you agree. He has Varitek/Leiberthal already on his team. With Piazza, he isn't going to carry 3 catchers. So I can pick up one of those two off the FA wire once he dumps one of them. I just dropped Todd Ritchie and picked up Geronomo Gil for security purposes.

I can stash Green on my bench (I have Klesko, Sheffield, Floyd, Kearns, and Dunn) until he comes out of his funk.

So, in my mind, with acquiring Green in this deal, I am getting an extra player, b/c he will drop one of his other catchers.

Good trade? Good thinking on my part?

Good trade? Yes. Good thinking? Hopefully. If it pans out, you've stolen a catcher 8assuming your waiver priority is good), but I'd be a bit worried about the other guy shopping a catcher before dropping any of them outright. It sounds like a good risk to take, though. Ah, the mind games within the game...

Well, I thought about the shopping idea. The problem is that currently there are some FA catchers with the same point values as both Leiberthal and Varitek. We are in a 10 team league, and the catchers are spread out. Regardless, I like Gil, and in a h2h league, pitching rules supreme in our system. I need a boost, and hopefully Pedro will provide it.

Well that trade got contested by the league.

I can understand. Do you think that they will contest Varitek/Pedro for Piazza/Ramon Ortiz?

We will be trying that trade on Thursday once this one is officially squashed.

I wouldn't have contested that trade. The risk surrounding Pedro's health makes it fairly even, but that shouldn't be the issue anyway. Seeing as it's not collusive and there's no information being withheld, I'd see no reason to protest.

While I can't guess whether a Pedro/Varitek for Piazza/Ortiz deal will be protested in your league, I can say with certainty that I wouldn't even consider filing a protest here.

Once protests start, however, it's often hard to make them stop. Hope you still manage to get a deal through!
