Who to Trade for Alexei WHIR!

Postby skones » Tue May 26, 2009 1:35 am

It was inevitable that the guy was going to come around sooner or later. He's too good of a player not to. It's happening now and I'm doing my best to get him on my roster before he becomes to hot to obtain.

Over his last 4 games, he's gone:
8/17 (.471) with 6 runs, 6 rbi, 2 HR and 2 SB

Here is my team. 6x6 H2H (standard plus holds and ops) 6 keepers, 12 teams

C: Russell Martin
1B: Aubrey Huff
2B: Howie Kendrick (Poor Iwamura)
3B: David Wright
SS: Michael Young
OF: Carlos Beltran
OF: Justin Upton
OF: BJ Upton
UTIL: Adam Laroche
UTIL: Mike Cameron
Bench: Luis Castillo
Bench: Stephen Drew

SP: Tim Linceum
SP: Derek Lowe
SP: Edwin Jackson
RP: Scott Downs
RP: Mike Gonzalez
RP: Brad Ziegler
P: Carlos Villanueva
P: Dan Meyer
P: Juan Cruz
P: Joel Zumaya
Bench: Chris Young
Bench: Ubaldo Jimenez
Bench: Ted Lilly
DL: Brandon Webb

With that being said, I'm trying to flip Howie Kendrick and a SP for Alexei. I've obviously got an enormous hole as 2B and that is my primary reason for going after Ramirez so aggressively. I've been turned down in offers of Kendrick and Young for Ramirez and Kendrick and Jimenez for Ramirez. I've got 6 quality starting pitchers on my squad therefore I don't think it would hurt me too much to couple Kendrick with a guy like Jackson or Lowe. Jackson is a guy who may or may not continue to keep his walks down, which makes him a wild card, and Lowe is a guy who will give me good numbers across the board but lack in strikeout totals. I guess my question is this. Is Lowe and Kendrick too much? Is Jackson and Kendrick too much? Even if it is, would either deal make my team better (meaning is it worth improving offensively and absorbing the hit i take with my staff). Webb will be back within the next couple of months for the home stretch which should give me a boost as well.

It is also worth noting that I may be able to flip Jimenez and a reliever for Slowey very soon as another owner has shown interest in that.

Among the SP's available on the wire are:
Ricky Romero
Josh Outman
Paul Maholm
Joel Piniero
Nick Blackburn
Mike Pelfrey

Either deal could work and make your team better. I would definately pick up Paul Maholm to take the place of the pitcher dealt

Try Lilly or Edwin Jackson while he is hot?

With the way Jackson has been pitching lately, I would try him + Kendrick. If Jackson has a good outing against KC today that would be a value boost as well. I would try Jackson/Kendrick, and would even try Lowe/Kendrick if you had too. As you've stated, you have very strong SP, so both trades would benefit you at my first glance.

Agreed. Try Jackson or even Lowe and Kendrick for Ramirez. I don't think that's giving up too much. Mid-level pitching can always be had on the wire.

I'm not enamored with Ramirez at all, he's a free swinger, and OPS hurts his value even more. That said if you like him Kendrick and a starter like Jackson would be a reasonable price as I don't really care for Kendrick either. Thanks for the help on mine, I appologize I couldn't be of more assistance but I just don't care for Ramirez at all, and have a hard time justifying dealing for him.
