I used to believe that Liriano was going to snap out of this funk he has been in, but after today I'm not so sure anymore. Do you guys think Brett Myers is a safer bet for the rest of the year? Outside of the home run, he has pitched much better than Liriano. The rest of my staff includes Hamels, Slowey, Edwin Jackson, Zach Grienke and Chad Billingsley .
Liriano certainly has the upside and you know what you're getting with Myers, but the way Lirano has been pitching lately, Myers is the safer bet. Myers has his flaws to be sure, but if you can live with his 4 something ERA and above average WHIP, go for it.
Liriano and Myers share the same risks just about: unreliable command from time to time and a tendency to the HR ball. I'd cross my fingers and keep Liriano, hoping he refines his release point, given that Myers' high HR total (15) can be just as unreliable outing to outing if his command is a bit out of whack.

That's more or less what I was going to say. There's probably a better option in your FA pool. This is what I mean by people getting to attached to a name. You can only be patient for so long, eventually you have to take out the trash, you can't trade those guys right now, so don't be afraid to just cut them loose and make them someone else's problem.

Myers has the benefit of being a second-half pitcher. Four of the last five, including the last three in a row, his numbers get better in the second half. Wins more, loses less, BAA goes down, etc. etc. The Phils are a second half team too, so it all fits together. While Minnesota doesn’t stink like Cleveland, they aren’t making any noise this season. I’d pass on Liriano.
