Rays’ 2B Iwamura out for season with torn left ACL

(AP)—Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Akinori Iwamura(notes) will miss the rest of the season with a torn ligament in his left knee.

Iwamura was injured trying to turn a double play in the eighth inning Sunday against the Florida Marlins and was carted off the field.

He will have surgery after the swelling goes down, according to Rays executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman.

The infielder is in his third season with the Rays after playing in Japan’s Central League. In 44 games, Iwamura was hitting .310 (48-for-155) with no home runs, 16 RBIs and eight stolen bases in nine attempts.

I assume Upton goes back to 2B? If so huge jump in value in leagues that have him eligible in the OF only.

Any DRay homers care to weigh in?

I'm not a Ray homer but I think there is no chance Upton moves back to 2nd, his defense was horrible there. I'd imagine Zobrist is the main guy when he isn't in left with Brignac and Aybar getting the rest of the time. But I wouldn't be shocked if they call Joyce up to have him play right and then Zobrist is the guy at 2nd.
