Chase Utley ridin the pine

Postby g-dawg » Mon May 25, 2009 10:16 am

Who would've thought I would have Chase Utley on the bench, and instead starting Aaron Hill at 2B & Miguel Tejada at UTL because I'm starting Scutaro at SS. Even though Scutaro ranks below Utley in most categories, I've got a power heavy lineup so Scutaro helps me slightly more in my weaker categories (hits, doubles, BB).

Certainly a strange season so far for me. Anybody else with strange lineups where you've got a star on the bench with late rd picks or free agents starting in their place?

I've had both Utley and Hill on my roster since Opening Day, and Hill has been in for only a handful of games so far this year.

I've also started Yunel Escobar over Miguel Tejada all but the two weeks when Escobar was hurt.

Of course, I play a points league (14 tms) that rewards both OPS and SLG, so guys like Escobar are more valuable than in 5x5.

I'm in a similar situation w/ B. Roberts and A. Hill. I have probably split them 60/40 respectively. It all depends on whether I need SB, R (Roberts) or HR, RBI (Hill). I've been trying to move them for a few weeks now, no takers.

My outfield was Carlos Quentin, Adam Jones, Adam Lind, Hunter Pence, Jay Bruce, and then I grabbed BJ Upton of the waiver wire and had to rotate between 3 OF spots ( I had Adrain Gonzalez at UTIL and Albert Pujols at 1st), I tried hard to trade a coupleaway but struggled but finally took a deal my Quentin/Pence for Heath Bell and Matt Cain.

I didn't until about 2 weeks ago. I guess it's just based on the stats my league keeps up with (8 offensive categories total). I get plenty of HR & RBI from my 1B, 3B, & OF and these three guys have performed better than Utley in the other categories (H, R, 2B, ave.) over the last couple of weeks. But I'm probably going to take out Scutaro before too long & get Utley or Mike Lowell back in.

Just never would have thought I couldn't find a spot for Utley in my line-up. Guess that's a good thing.
