Lowe for Lidge?

Postby SonOF » Sun May 24, 2009 12:55 pm

I'm in a 10 team, head to head, performance based league. My team is pretty set in the starting pitcher department at the moment (Hamels, Peavy, Maholm, Dice-K, Wandy Rodriguez, Cliff Lee, D. Lowe), and I'm rather weak in the bullpen. I was just offered Brad Lidge for Derek Lowe. I actually offered the guy the same deal at the very start of the season, but it was rejected. Now that Lidge has recently been getting clobbered, of course the guy makes me the same offer. Do you think that Lidge has a good chance of rebounding and having a quality last 2/3's of a season? Is Lidge far too risky to trade for? Lowe has been consistently good for me this season, but doesn't provide the strikeout numbers like some of my other starters. What do you guys think?

Just for reference, this is the scoring system for pitchers in my league:

Scoring for Pitching Categories
APP - Appearances 1 point
BS - Blown Saves -3 points
CG - Complete Games 7 points
ER - Earned Runs -1 point
HB - Hit Batsmen -1 point
HD - Holds 3 points
HRA - Home Runs Allowed -1 point
INN - Innings 1 point
K - Strikeouts (Pitcher) 1 point
L - Losses -5 points
NH - No-Hitters 40 points
PG - Perfect Games 75 points
QS - Quality Starts 5 points
S - Saves 7 points
SO - Shutouts 10 points
W - Wins 10 points
WP - Wild Pitches -1 point

It's worth a gamble if you need the help in saves. Lidge has really been missing his spots but has said that he's feeling fine which is a key. I've got to think he'll come around. Manuel has shown that he is going to stick by his guy.

Any non-Phillie fans with an opinion? ;) (I'm just kidding, I value all opinions, I just want more)

They were valued equally at season start according to where they were drafted, but has not Derek Lowe been exceeding expectations while Brad Lidge has underperformed?

I was thinking of offering Dice K, another player valued around the same as Lidge in the draft (slightly ahead of him rather than slightly behind him), but Dice K has been doing lousy, not well.

Dicek for lidge makes a ton of sense. What closers are available? Roster?

I am so far behind in Ws, I am going to punt them. I am last in Ws, ERA and WHIP. I have a shot to compete at the top level in Ks, I am currently solidly 2nd in SVs, with a chance to reach 1st. My plan is to punt Ws and go for Ks and get some points in ERA/WHIP. With more SVs, I would eventually get more far out in front than I have to, but the real goal is Ks, ERA and WHIP.
