Just dealt for Utley, thoughts?

Postby APAP » Sat May 23, 2009 10:49 pm

I just traded off the rights to Mike Moustakas and Michael Burgess as will as a 1st Round Rookie pick in 2010 for Chase Utley. How'd I make out? This is a 16 team dynasty that I took over this season in horrible shape and am working as hard as I can to over haul and rebuild:

3b- Adrian Beltre

Sp- David Price
Sp- Jair Jurrjens
Sp- Rich Hill
Sp- Homer Bailey
Rp- Mariano Rivera
Rp- Brandon Morrow
Rp- Matt Thornton

Minors

Which rookie pick number?

Assuming it was a mid to low pick, you definitely got the better of this deal. There are plenty of kids that are can't-miss prospects that don't pan out. Look at Alex Gordon, for example, who is VERY comparable to Moustakas. He was pretty much considered the locked-in ROY and he has stunk up the place in his 2 seasons. He may pan out but imagine that same trade with Gordon in there instead of Moustakas and you pulling the trigger on it 3 years ago. You'd of course have gotten the much better end of the deal.

The other thing to consider...because of what happened with Gordon they are MUCH more likely to go slow with Moustakas.

I won't know what pick it is til the season's over...let's just say this team's not doing too well and I've had to build it from the bottom up.

well, you said it yourself - you picked up a team in terrible shape, therefore - you're going to need help now. Utley was a great pick-up, and the loss of a underdeveloped prospect like Moustakas should pan out for you.

Well I guess you have to make sure you don't get in last so that guy can't grab Strasburg. If the team is REALLY bad, as in, going to finish last...this might not have been a worthwhile trade to make. I was trying to think of why the person would offer you Utley for these 2 but perhaps he is going after Strasburg.

Well Ive made a lot of my own additions so that this team isn't the worst team in the league anymore. It's still bad, but theres 2 worse teams now. I've acquired Lee, Gallardo, Ankiel, Beltre, Hudson and a majority of the quality prospects that I have and now Utley so I'm pretty sure I won't finish dead last.

Well, I basically like the deal, but Utley is a little bit older, so trading away three young guys on a rebuilding team may not have been a great move....
