Burnett vs. Philly? WHIR

Postby grumpy77 » Fri May 22, 2009 5:28 pm

Philly can mash, especially Utley, Howard, and Ibanez. Should I sit the walk happy AJ "I only pitch in contract years!" Burnett or throw him out there? In Yankee Stadium? Here's my situation:

Leading the league in Ks with 320 in 333 IP. Near the bottom in ERA (4.54) and WHIP (1.36). Wins is tight for everyone as the entire league ranges from 17-21. and I have 18. I also have Peavy going tonight. Let me know what you guys think.

Leave a link, WHIR!

I'm in the same spot. I have AJ posted up for today, with Raul in my lineup as well. My biggest worry is that the new Yankee stadium is a HR park for strong lefties and with Utley, Raul (hot right now), and Howard in a row it could be a nasty night for the 5+ ERA Burnett. I'm low on strikes in my h2h matchup, have a blown ERA at 6+ thanks to de la rosa and kazmir (against the a's? cmon) so I could take a chance on him.

I might take the risk of playing him tonight hoping to steal some K's if I'm lucky since my opponent has a nice 2.25 ERA this week. If you need a low ERA tonight though I might make room on the bench for him, especially since you aren't desperate for Ks right now. It could go either way but I'm betting we see 5 Ks a HR or two and probably 13 H + BBs. He'll be strong through the third but I bet he gives up a lot by the time he hits the 5th inning.

I'm benching him. not taking a chance vs. those mashers in the new Coors field.

Any last second thoughts? He's on my bench as of now... Anyone want to weigh in?
