12 team 5x5 redraft league. I just made the following trade:
I got: David Wright, K-rod I gave: Youklis, Adam Jones, Aaron Hill
I know I may have given more here, but I thought in the long run this helped my team. I was not competitive in saves and I was weak in steals. Here's the makeup of my new team. Tell me what you think.
C: Sandoval 1b: Morneau 2b: Utley 3b: Wright SS: Peralta OF: Beltran OF: Abreu OF: Hawpe Util: Chris Davis, Felipe Lopez, Magglio Ordonez (waiver claim for him)
I think you gave up a little too much value in this deal, but since you have Utley entrenched at 2B, and have Morneau at 1B this was a good deal for you considering you needed a closer.
I thought about that too, but Jones has been hurt twice already w/ a hammy and Youk was on the DL. I remained competitive w/o those two guys and I have a real feeling that one if not all 3 of them can get hurt at any time.
I'd expect AHill and Adam Jones to come down to earth a bit, while you know DWright is a beast. You didn't get a steal, but you didn't get fleeced either. Its a good deal.
I really like this trade for you! You get one of the best players in the game in Wright (and he hasn't even peaked yet this season; his power will come) and possibly the best closer. You certainly gave up some value but you still have an awesome outfield, you improved your third base and you were able to deal an extra second baseman. With Wright and Utley, you have two first round draft picks (arguably three with Beltran) on your roster, and that can never hurt! I think you did great!!
However, I'm not certain how much Wright's steals are actually going to help you. Even though he's having a fantastic season thus far with SB's, I'm not convinced he's going to steal 35 again, which is about what you need from him for this trade to have been completely worth while. The only other guys on your roster capable of appreciable steals are Abreu, Beltran and Utley and I guess Lopez, although I'm not sure if he's worth playing every day.....
Ultimately, I really like this deal from your perspective, because you can never have too many All-Star caliber players on your roster and I think that while you may have given up slightly more overall value, you certainly got the better players!
