Riske or Wickman?

Postby LBJackal » Mon Mar 15, 2004 12:07 am

So far Riske has pitched 5 innings, compiling 2 saves and a win, while giving up no ER's. I know success doesn't matter, but the fact that he's had 2 save opps while Wickman has had none says something about who they want in their to close out games. However, Wickman has only pitched in 1 game. Maybe they don't want him pitching too much yet ????? I wouldn't say it's a sure thing that he has the job on opening day.

I'm guessing it will be Wickman within the first month of the season. He has a proven track record and with makeing more money than Riske, the first time Riske gets hit hard more than one outing in a row, everyone will be screaming for Wickman. I'd just like to see the guy stay healthy.

If Wickman is healthy he will be the Indians closer. They may be taking a cautious approach with him at this stage, but his past record as a closer suggests he is the man they will turn to.

Yeah, they are working Wickman in very slowly, but continue to say that he's the closer. I think it's definitely worth watching. If he's not looking good in the next few weeks, there may be a change.

The job is currently Wickman's. Not sure how much rope they will give him though. :-?

Riske is by far, the better pitcher. Wickman has been named the closer, but I would guess it will be a short leash, and Riske will take over by the middle of May. ;-D
