The June 1st call up predictions thread...

Considering there are tons of threads asking when prospect "x" will be called up (I'm guilty of starting some i.e. Chris Tillman) I figured, why not compile a thread discussing different prospects, whether it be Wieters, Price, Hanson, or lower ceiling guys. I don't really have any questions to get this thing started, but hope this will take off and that instead of having 10-15 player threads we could discuss here.

Ok, I'll start. My prediction is that the big guys, like Wieters, Price, Hanson, don't come up till after June 7th.

Remember the Super-2 time frame is variable every year, so if you are bring them up too soon you might pay for it later. Owners/GMsare fighting severe economic times. The actual economics of making a mistake won't hit for almost 3 years when the economy will probably be better. But since they are all thinking about it now, I'll bet they are gun shy so they don't make a mistake. Its a physiological thing.

(Injuries can change the equation. For example LaPorta's call up is like Ryan Howard's a few years ago where a team makes the move early because someone is hurt.)

So, while in the past Super-2 type players stared coming up around now, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a few week delay for the biggest prospects.

I think Price is needed more in tampa than laporta was in cleveland. So I think he will be the first of those big three to be called up. I'm not sure about weiters, but I think hanson will be the last of those three to be called up. Atlanta SP is not doing poorly enough to justify an immediate call-up.

What about one two guys somewhat flying under the radar that are changing positions... Jesus Guzman and Kyle Blanks? Both the Giants and Padres offenses are terrible, and it appears the Padres realize that if they are not going to deal Blanks or Gonzalez (though I do think they eventually deal Gonzalez) they need Blanks to move to the OF to get his bat up to the Majors where it belongs.

I'm surprised they wouldn't call him up for the road trip before, even just the second part in Oakland. But Schmuck should have as good a guess as anyone.

Jesus Guzman called up for interleague play and Kazmir on the DL and Price likely to replace his rotation spot on Monday.

Wouldn't Price coming up at this point defeat the purpose of leaving him down there so long?
I'm not completely familar with the Super 2 stuff, but it would seem to still be right before the deadline to keep guys from becoming eligible.

Well seems to me they would know more about whats going on with him then we do. Most of us just read what they put in front of us. How else are we suppose to know? Why else would he be there? I mean other then than money down the road? hes definately better then most of their options currently starting.
