Getting Carp and Smoltz Back. Trade Gallardo for a Bat?

Postby jmcampbe11 » Tue May 19, 2009 9:21 am

With Carpenter and Smoltz due back soon does it make sense for me to trade Gallardo for offense? If yes, what type of offensive player should I target? Maybe a SS upgrade?

Thoughts on a Sizemore/Gallardo/Ad.Jones for Utley/Rollins/Rios swap?

Thanks for help on mine.

When I read the first part of your question, I was going to say don't trade Gallardo...I love his upside and think he is going to keep progressing. But then when I read your trade, I would have no problem giving up Sizemore or Jones and would love to get Utley and Rollins, although not much of a Rios fan.

Bottom Line: I like your trade and would do that, but those kind of players are the only ones I would give up Gallardo for.

Do you think my pitching staff can weather losing Gallardo. I'd still have -

Greinke
Lilly
Carpenter
Smoltz
Nolasco
Jimenez

I know it's early, but right now I'm strong in era/whip. My only weak category is batting avg. That's why the idea of trading Sizemore and getting Alx.Ramirez out of my lineup is enticing.

Thx for the help on my post man

1st off, I ALWAYS like trading Sp for offense.

I like Gallardo/Sizemore for Rollins/Rios myself.

I would not bother trying to get utley unless you can steal him for some reason.

The problem with that trade is Sizemore is one of my 3 keepers. I'm fine with giving him up if I can get an equal keeper back (like Utley), but Rollins would be a bit of a stretch.

Good trade for you but it does thin out your SP a bit and then you have no need for Phillips or Alexei. Could you trade those guys for some SP once this trade was done?

I could trade Alexei at middle infield and bench Jose Lopez. I was high on him at the beginning of the year, but I'm not convinced he should be owned in a 10 team league anymore.

I'd lean towards doing the 3 for 3 deal that you had and then pluck a guy off the FA list to get an SP that can help. Rollins and Utley and even Rios would be a very nice upgrade even though you lose Sizemore. Utley becomes your new keeper.

Forget the man crush. I drop what I'm doing to watch Zack Greinke pitch.

The only thing I would worry about is the fact that Smoltz and Carp could just as easily go right back on the DL again after a handful of starts.
