Better numbers than Varitek this year? Perhaps. Any thoughts?

I don't think Hall will put up better numbers than Varitek.
I just read a good article on Toby. Here is the link to it:

I'm hoping for 10-15 homers with about 60-70 RBIs and an average over .280. Do you think that these nmbers are reasonable?

Hall won't touch Varitek's stats this season

I think Hall will be better than last year; he seemed to get comfortable toward the end of last year. However, Varitek is more experienced, more trusted, in a contract year, and in a better lineup.
Hence...

No, I would still take Varitek first, but I could see hall putting up similar power numbers, but with a better average.

As a Rays fan, I know quite a bit about Hall. These past few seasons he's been fine-tuning his defensive skills, but according to an article in the Tampa Tribune he's going to focus more on becoming the offensive player he was hyped up to be.

IMO will put up similar #'s to Ramon Hernandez from last year a notch below Varitek
