Mike Lowell for Garret Atkins

Postby Chicago 2 » Mon May 18, 2009 5:16 pm

I haven't been offered this trade but am looking at maybe acquiring Atkins. Seems now is the time.

I guess my question is do you think Garret will rebound? And can Lowell keep this up?

Get:
Garret Atkins

Give:
Mike Lowell

League settings are traditional Yahoo, 12 team, head to head 5x5

Roster:

Chris Iannetta
Joey Votto
Aaron Hill
Chris Davis
Jose Reyes
Nick Markakis
Carl Crawford
Jay Bruce
Corey Hart
Mike Lowell
Derrek Lee
Alexei Ramirez

Yovani Gallardo
Zack Greinke
Chad Qualls
Troy Percival
Juan Cruz
Cliff Lee
Javier Vazquez
Erik Bedard
Mark Buehrle
DL Joakim Soria

Lowell is doing well and Atkins bad of course, figure now might be the time to buy. Would also give me some additional flexibility in my lineup. I could use the HRs.

Just wondering if Atkins will wake up.

Should I offer it?

Yikes, based on the season so far, I wouldn't touch Atkins with a 10 foot pole. The only benefit of him over Lowell is age in my opinion. You don't seem to be using Lowell anyway, so if you want to do the deal and take the risk, then do it. Now would be a really buy low time. Of course, who knows if he'll prove to be high value.

If this isn't a keeper league, then I think I'd stick with Lowell. He's been looking like he did two years ago, and he's healthy. He's in such a potent lineup that if he stays healthy he can put up some big numbers. Atkins just hasn't been right for a while now.

Since Id hate to start a new topic I'll post another trade possibility here.

Using same roster in my first post.

Get:
Ryan Howard
Jacoby Ellsbury
Hunter Pence

Give:
Joey Votto
Carl Crawford
Mike Lowell

Does this seem reasonable or just dumb on my part? I would get power I need and I think I should sell high on Crawford while I can since this is around the time he hits the DL.

Thoughts? Other guys third basemen is Beltre :-o

Yeah, if you can pull that trade off do it. The key to that deal is Ryan Howard.
