Do I trade Berkman for Teixiera?

Postby zonk » Mon May 18, 2009 12:46 pm

To me, Lance's best days are behind him and I'm not so sure the same can't be said for Carlos Lee in that lineup. Lance will heat up and he plays in a hitter friendly park and a hitter friendly league and a hitter friendly division, but I think with A-Rod returning, Teixiera's upside is greater?

Would you make this deal?

Thanks.

I'm in 6th place in a 12 team, head to head league:

C-Ianetta
1B-Berkman
2B-Sanchez
SS-M. Young
3B-Wright
OF-Dye
OF-Pierre
OF-Granderson

Bench:
1B-Helton
SS-Rollins
OF-Pence
OF-McLouth
OF-Victorino

SP-Haren
SP-Cain
SP-Lester
SP-Carpenter
SP-Zambrano
SP-Wolf
RP-Wilson
RP-Gregg

If this is a straight trade, Berkman for Teixiera, then yes. ESPN ranks Tex as 19 on their May list, and Berkman a distant 41.

Yep, straight up. My only reservation is the ballpark. I think the new Yankee Stadium will limit his production compared to Minute Maid.

I don't know why you wouldn't do this if it was offered to you. In the early going, new Yankee Stadium looks to be one of the best offensive parks in the league. Also, Teixeira was valued more highly than Berkman on draft day and since that time Berkman's value has fallen while Teixeira's has remained basically even (since hes always been known as a slow starter).

It's a decent upgrade that I would certainly accept.

Thanks. Plus, I'll be shocked if Lance's knees and back put him on the DL for a bit by the end of the season.

Too good to pass up.

I'd absolutely do this. Teixiera has a lot more upside, especially now with ARod back in the line up. Tex has always been a slow starter. Grab him now and enjoy the ride as he continues to improve from here.
