VOTTO: what is his deal?

Postby callacim » Mon May 18, 2009 11:57 am

Im sure other Votto owners are very concerned as well. Over the last 7 games constantly in and out of the lineup or even starting and then taking out...Dizzyness? Seems more than that, how serious is this actually anyone know any more details?

He's going to be examined today, so there is no further update on his condition. Anything you read is pure speculation at this point in time. There are people on this site acting as Doogie Howser trying to diagnose Votto with Vertigo, but they really don't know what they are talking about...

The real question is what to do with him this week. Can you really run the risk of starting him in a weekly league? I'm leaning towards probably not.

Looking more and more like vertigo. This could linger for some time, I wouldnt be surprised if he missed most of the season.

Guys, Vertigo can be caused by a variety of things. It is a symptom. You have to know what is causing the vertigo to diagnose the patient and then give him his prognosis. Considering that he just had a viral infection, that is the most likely cause of the vertigo (acute labryinthitis) and that can last anywhere from a couple days to a week or two. It is probably not that serious and a VERY highly doubt he misses a lot more time.

I remember when Nick Esasky (yes I'm that old...LOL) had his one good year with the Red Sox and then had Vertigo and was never the same after that. In fact, I think he had to prematurely retire because of it. He wasn't even that old either, just in his early 30's. So it can be a pretty serious condition if not treated properly. Luckily they can do a lot more to treat the symptoms now then they could back in the 80's when Esasky had it. I have Votto on one of my teams and I had no choice but to bench him, luckily I also have Billy Butler on that same team and he's been pretty hot for the Royals lately so it's all good. B-)

the last update from CBS says he stayed behind in SD for evaluation... Did he make back to cincy? If so I'll probably risk him a start today.

The issue is starting to drag on, and now he doesn't go back home with the team because he's being medically evaluated? Not cool, not cool at all...I am officially worried. 8-o
