Offered Maholm for Rich Hill, take it?

Postby kingmike74 » Mon May 18, 2009 8:16 am

Not a huge trade but in my 5x5 redraft I was offered Rich Hill for maholm, who is just a bench warmer for me and with his upcoming 1 month scedule, he probably will remain that way.

Rich Hill for my Paul Maholm?

I prefer Maholm myself - seems like the safer play

Thanks for your help on mine. I'd stick with Maholm, he's the safer pick and I don't really see Hill as an upgrade.

HIll is only an upgrade if he has removed the mysterious control problem and returns to 2007 form. If he is able to do so, he's a significant upgrade over Maholm. It was encouraging to see Hill pound the strike zone effectively with both pitches, FB and curve, yielding 6 K's and only giving up 2BB. The 1.59 whip may be a red flag, though...

I watched Hill's start and his curve was sick as ever. He was also hitting 87-90 with his FB, which I think is his norm. Hill was only hurt when red hot Alberto Callaspo hit a lucky 2-RBI-double off him while trying to fight off the craziest curve he had ever seen in his life. I like what I saw from hill overall. Might be worth waiting to see another start from Hill, but I'd take a gamble on Hill personally.
Without ME it would just be AWESO.
