Soria, Myers and Hawpe for Bell and Lester

Postby Berg » Sat May 16, 2009 7:51 pm

Morrow is (sorry, was) my #2 RP with Soria on the DL, so now I need to acquire another closer. Gregg and Rodney are the only viable ones on waivers and I'd rather not settle for either of them (though I was considering grabbing Marmol or Bailey in anticipatiom of them taking over at some point) - in any event, I was instead planning to make this offer, and the other owner has Qualls on the bench so he wouldn't need to find someone to replace Bell. Would this be a solid deal for us both, or is this too much/too little to offer? All advice is appreciated and WHIR.

I don't see RP as the true reason for this deal, but I like it nonetheless. Lester is the best player in it. He's struggled mightily, but has suffered from a good amount of bad luck. He's actually raised his K-rate and lowered his walk rate this season, and I've even heard reports that his velocity has increased. The deal makes you better now while hurting your RP in the long run and dealing from some depth on the bench, but really, who cares? If you don't make this deal, why not just drop Swisher and pick up one of the closers on the WW. You don't need swisher with Werth and Hawpe and hey, saves are saves, really. Ooh. actually, why don't you drop Swisher and Asdrubel Cabrera and pick up Gregg and Marmol? Then, you're set for the year. I like it. Do it.

You might also want to consider trading Roberts to the guy in your league that is starving for a 2B. He's not running as much, but his other numbers still look sexy enough. Weeks is having a real breakout (finally) and you'd do just as well with Roberts on the decline. Maximize his value now.
