Trading Low on Ortiz

Postby boyogold » Fri May 15, 2009 10:38 pm

Do I take this trade? I'm trying to get somebody decent for Ortiz, but right now I think I just need to get him out of here.

I give:
David Ortiz (1B/U)
Josh Hamilton (OF/U)

I get:
A LaRoche (1B/U)
M Ordonez(OF/U)

12 Team H2H (pts based)
Single = 1
Double = 2
Triple = 3
Home Run = 4
Run = 1
RBI = 1
Walk = 1
Stolen Base = 2
Caught Stealing = -1

My roster
Mike Napoli (C,Util , LAA)
David Ortiz (1B,Util , BOS)
Dustin Pedroia (2B,Util , BOS)
Miguel Cabrera (1B,3B,Util , DET)
Troy Tulowitzki (SS,Util , COL)
Shane Victorino (OF,Util , PHI)
Torii Hunter (OF,Util , LAA)
Ryan Spilborghs (OF, Util, COL)
Adrian Beltre (3B,Util , SEA)
Milwaukee Brewers (P, MIL)

Chris Coghlan (2B/U, FLA)
J.J. Hardy (SS/U, MIL)
Josh Hamilton (OF,Util , TEX)
Billy Butler (1B,Util , KC)
Matt Wieters (C/U, BAL)

Philadelphia Phillies (P , PHI)

believe it or not, only in a point based league like yours, would i do this trade. Pull the trigger. IN the end you will have more points. In roto or head to head i would not. Ortiz looks real bad and him and hamiliton are k kings in this. The 2 guys u are getting have good eyes.

Ortiz does have basically no value now but you're not getting a big asset back by coupling him with Josh Hamilton just to get rid of him. Maggs has been just as terrible and you don't make big trades to acquire Adam LaRoche as the centerpiece.

I wouldn't do this trade at all, Maggs has 3 extra base hits this year (not a good sign) and A. Laroche is not a big enough asset in return for Hamilton. I would either receive a better 1B in the deal or hold onto Ortiz and Hamilton and hope they have monster second halfs

For some comparison - I just traded Ortiz and Juan Cruz for Paul Maholm (I got Maholm). I'm pretty happy with the value I got for Maholm.
