cbs sportline has reported The Mariners have removed struggling Brandon Morrow from the closer role. Manager Don Wakamatsu says David Aardsma will lead a rotation of relievers who will finish games based on specific situations. Morrow blew saves in each of the last two games of Seattle's last road trip, when the team went 1-7. Wakamatsu says Morrow will pitch middle relief for the time being. He made the announcement before the Mariners hosted the Red Sox on Friday night.
On Thursday, Texas' Chris Davis hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning, after Hank Blalock led off with a solo shot against Morrow as the Rangers beat the Mariners 3-2. Blalock hit a two-run double off Morrow in the 11th Wednesday night, leading Texas to a 6-5 victory. Morrow's Fantasy value drops considerably with this move, although he could regain the role at some point this season. Aardsma is now the Mariners reliever to own in Fantasy, although he isn't a highly recommended option either.
so whats this do for Morrow's value? I mean, i drafted him in a lot of leagues thinking he was going to be a starter and then when he was announced as the closer, it wasnt all bad news bc he has a high K/9 and i thought he could be dominant and lock down 30+ saves. Needless to say, none of that has panned out and i am now contemplating dumping Morrow. If hes just a long reliever, obviously his value drops terribly but if they plan on moving him to long relief and eventually stretching him out to start in the 2nd half, i think his value is still decent. I like Morrow's stuff and think he could be a solid Starter but i also thought he could be a dominant closer so who knows? Id like the hear input from Seattle fans if possible, thanks!

As a Morrow fan and someone that rode him last year for a real nice stretch, I'm strongly considering dumping him. Roster space is tight for me, and while he could obviously gain the job back at some point, it is going to be hard for me to wait. Especially given his injury history.

I'm benching Morrow(I should be dropping him- but I'm in a deep league which starts 10 pitchers) and inserting Juan Cruz to the Lineup. Cruz will fill in just fine.

Chad Cordero appeared in an extended spring training game Saturday. Cordero (shoulder) is still eying an early June return, but the clock is ticking. "The velocity isn't there yet," said GM Jack Zduriencik. It's a process."Source: Seattle Times
Morrow will probably get the closer job back sometime soon, I don't think David Aardsma is the answer as closer for the M's. He'll be OK for now but not long-term. Morrow should get the job back sometime before the All-Star break I'm sure.
