Who's the best for SBs among these three?

Postby Dr.DooM » Sun Mar 14, 2004 6:05 pm

Time for me to add some speed to my roster. I'm in a 13-team mixed league 5x5 roto. We use OBP instead of avg so please take this into account.

Carl Crawford
80R 5HR 54RBI 55SB .309 OBP

Scott Podsenick
100R 9HR 58RBI 43SB .379 OBP

Johnny Damon
103R 12HR 67HR 30SB .345 OBP

I'm leaning towards Podsenick for round 9 pick. What do you guys think?

Crawford, he's the only one who's not going to drop off a little in sb.

I would take Podsednik. His better OBP, higher run production, and threat of moderate power make him a more valuable all-around player than Crawford.

Crawford is also good choice and probably gets more steals than Pods, but doesn't bring the full package.

I'm a little down on Damon after hearing he put on some pounds in the offseason. Thats not to say he can't help your team in a lot of categories, but I wouldn't pin my hopes in steals on him.

Does anyone else agree with me that Podsednik is a one year wonder?

If steals are the deciding factor then go with Crawford, but he will hurt your average.

You can also look at dave roberts if you want steals, but he might score less runs in that LA line up.

It is easy to say that after he had great numbers his first year in the majors after not setting the world on fire in a number of years in the minors.

You can't write him off this year though. There are many examples in sport of players lifting their performance levels when they make it to the big time. Some guys just love been on the world stage.

Muhammed Ali looked awful at times in fights against no name boxers, but razzled and dazzled when he had to against Frazier, Foreman and co.

I also think less pressure is put on older guys that have a lot of minor league experience and then make it to the majors, than a young rookie looking to make the grade.

I agree 100% with you. Freaking Engal of sportsline took him in the 8th round of their experts draft. I dont think I will be able to enjoy reading his columns as much anymore.

If you just want steals, then go with Crawford. A couple of other steals guys that you can get cheap/late are Dave Roberts and Alex Sanchez. :-)
