BIG MOVES to Reshape Roster - Good or Bad? WHIR

Postby hambone1818 » Fri May 15, 2009 10:02 am

So my team has gotten off to an abysmal start...I've run into a bunch of teams that were just really hot the week I played them; add in some injuries and bad starts for some of my better players and I'm currently sitting in last place despite a pretty diesel team. I'm making these two moves, what do you think and is my roster better set for the long haul after these moves? Here are the details:

10 team, h-2-h, keeper league (capped at 7), 5x5

Miguel Cabrera
for
Tim Lincecum and Aramis Ramirez

AND

Johnny Cueto, Miguel Tejada and Aaron Hill
for
Jimmy Rollins and Mark DeRosa

Here is the team after these moves go through (I still have a move to make, I'm trying to move Danks and Wainwright for Harden, then with the extra roster spot I'll pick up a CI to fill in while Aramis is on the DL):

C Napoli
1B Howard
2B Pedroia
3B Reynolds
SS Rollins
CI ???
MI DeRosa
OF Hamilton
OF Sizemore
OF Choo
OF J. Upton
UTIL Ortiz
BEN Manny
BEN Wieters
DL Ar. Ramirez

SP Lincecum
SP Hamels
RP M. Gonzalez
RP (empty - Soria on the DL)
P Lester
P E. Santana
P J. Johnson
BEN Danks
BEN Wainwright
DL Soria

I'm a little concerned for the short term, but by mid-season I'll have Wieters at C (and might be able to get something for Napoli if he keeps hitting), Manny back in the OF, Aramis to 3B, Soria back at RP.

So, what do you think of the deals and the current roster construction? Thanks, and leave a link, I'll reply in kind.

I really like your team with the moves and think they're very reasonable. You're team will be competitive in pretty much all cats. You'll have a very solid keeper lineup going forward .

Thoughts on mine

I like both trades as well for your team, but I wouldnt trade Danks & Wainright for Harden.

I think the moves you are making are pretty solid considering you are getting the best players in both deals. Once you get manny, Soria, and Aramis back you should be pretty solid. I would keep danks and waignright though. They should be solid the rest of the year and Harden is good but he is also a risk.

Your moves look good I can't think of anything else you can do. Thanks for help on mine

Thanks guys.

As far as Harden/Danks/Wainwright is concerned, I kinda have to make a move just to fill my roster. I have Manny and Wieters stashed on the bench, with just 3 bench spots. With 7 SPers (Lincecum, Hamels, Lester, Santana, JJ, Danks, Wainwright) that's 2 more bench spots there, so I can't fill my roster with as many pitchers as I have.

The plan was to make a 2-for-1 trade to open a roster spot then use that extra slot for my CI. I like Danks and Wainwright but how frequently would either of them crack that top-5? So to me, Harden is great risk-reward: if he's lights out he cracks my top-5 rotation; if he's struggling or hurt he's on the bench. But I can't have 7 SPers.
