Longoria trade...can I even consider this?

Postby Coachsays » Fri May 15, 2009 8:36 am

This the trade I have been proposed

My
Longoria/Uggla/Ellsbury/Jimenez

His
Soriano/Youkilis/Hill/Rodney/Saunders

My Roster
6x6 (R, HR, RBI, AVG, OPS, SB, IP, W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP)
Head to Head league (1st season)

4 keepers per season

C Iannetta
1B Howard
2B Cabrera
3B Longoria
SS Tulowitzki
OF Quentin
OF Victorino
OF Ellsbury
Util Helton
Ben Cameron
Ben Uggla
Ben Lowell

SP Peavy
SP Hamels
RP Feuntes
RP Cordero
P Lilly
P J. Weaver
P Hawkins
Ben Jimenez
Ben D. Price
Ben Wolf

Although I think this is a reasonble offer I don't think I can make the deal without getting an elite player in return for Longoria...and I don't consider Soriano, Youkilis, or Hill elite players. His roster already includes Pujols and Hanley already (was able to trade for Hanley with a huge 4 way deal that included Braun/KRod). This is a keeper so he'd have 3 elite bats going forward every year. I can't make this deal can I?

What if I had him swap out Saunders for Verlander and Jenks or Francisco for Rodney?

No way do I make that deal, he's selling you high on a bunch of guys. Youks is hurt but regardless his start is terribly inflated by a ridiculous BABIP number (I think he's in the low-.400s). Ditto Hill, he's certainly a quality 2B but no where near the player you'd be paying for. I like Soriano and he's still a second-tier elite type but at his age I wouldn't want him in a shallow keeper league. Longoria is a top-5 to top-10 keeper and you're not getting nearly that kind of return. Add in losing Ellsbury's speed and trading Uggla at his lowest potential value and this is a no-brainer to me.

I'd definitely pass.

you already answered your own questions. you dont want to trade longoria w/o getting a stud back, and youre not getting one back here. your suggestions at the end dont solve that problem.
