SUPER MEGA BLOCKBUSTER DEAL! SHOULD I DO IT? WHIR.

Postby NikeTxGuy » Thu May 14, 2009 9:45 am

Hey F.B.B. Cafe:

Let me begin by saying this: Throughout many fantasy baseball leagues (whether you are part of Yahoo, FOX, ESPN, whatever) there always seems to be a guy (or in some instances,) girl that seems to NOT want to do a fair offer, he/she will squeeze your arm and keep squeezing it til you say "uncle."

For me, this is the type of man (or woman) that is known as what I like to call: "Dealing With the Devil." You know what I'm talking about we ALL have it (unless your company has just purely saintly people that always like to do 50/50 win-win trades... Where everyone benefits! GOD, I wish there were some leagues like that!)

Well, we have one team like that in my league: A guy who always wants to make trades so HE will benefit. (Well, I can't fully state that, as him and I did a decent semi-major deal, in which I gave up Jonathan Papelbon and in exchange, got the 30-hit streaking guy that plays for the Washington Nationals, known as Ryan Zimmerman. Pretty freakin' Sweet!, as Peter Griffin from Family Guy would exclaim! ;-D

Well, now I sent him an early-bird offer:

MY Ian Kinsler for HIS Ryan Braun.

"8-o :-? 8-o" What is this I see? Rejected? AGAIN?! Yep. He counters with the following:

MY Ryan Howard, Ian Kinsler, Jimmy Rollins (Who is getting OLD, so I have no problem getting rid of him.) and Johan Santana (OLD, but very servicable.) for HIS Aaron Hill (WHO I HAD on my team, when he was a free agent, before I got Ian Kinsler, then dropped Hill.) The OLD but Semi-Proven Derek Jeter, RYAN BRAUN, and Todd Helton (Who he picked up as a FA.)

He then got on Yahoo! Messenger. He wanted to talk trade. He wanted to know how I FELT on it. I looked at him, and without ANY Hesitation, :-D :-b :-D :-b :-D LAUGHED! I told him: "There is NO possible way that I would trade Howard, Kinsler, and Santana all in the same deal... If I were to trade ALL of them, it would be for separate deals... UNLESS, you added "Mr. HEY HEY HEY!!!" Yep, that's right, the guy I wanted as well if I were to consider giving to him ALL 3 (Plus Rollins) was Mr. Phat Albert aka Albert Pujols!!!

He looked at this, because he has been VERY HIGH on Pujols since the start of MLB, and was open for discussion on wanting to give him up til he went on his HOT streak! So I was having my fingers crossed... He looked at this and typed: "Very interesting offer... I'm gonna go to school, but I will think about this, I kinda like this trade a little but I dunno."

So the Trade that I have that's proposed to HIM is the following:

MY Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins, Ian Kinsler, and Johan Santana for HIS Albert Pujols AND Ryan Braun. (I have Scutaro at SS that is riding on my bench, but I MAY make a minor trade for a more servicable SS.) My outfielders currently are Hamilton, Granderson, Hunter, Damon, and Jay Bruce. (But I will make another trade to get rid of some of them, possibly to get a GREAT SS or something of the sort.)

I know what y'all are thinking: "OMG... You are dealing with the devil, take that trade off right now, and keep what you have..." See I have major depth at batting, (As I LEAD the league in Runs, Home Runs, and Runs Batted In.) SB's I am down in, Walks? Down... but see Pujols can help me in BB... SB? Sure, he's not Mr. Speed Racer, but right now, he's doing enough to where I'd trade for him, for a few SB's here and there, even though I realize that he's not Jimmy Rollins. Braun? I LOVE his POWER, He's ONLY 26, and has decent speed (A LA David Wright...)

PLUS, This is a keeper league... We would get to keep 4 players riding into next season... Before this trade, my team looks like this:

C - Bengie Molina
1B - Ryan Howard
2B - Ian Kinsler
3B - Ryan Zimmerman
SS - Jimmy Rollins
OF - Josh Hamilton
OF - Curtis Granderson
OF - Johnny Damon
OF - Torii Hunter
OF - Jay Bruce
OF - Jack Cust
UT - Carlos Pena
UT - Marco Scutaro
UT - Jorge Cantu

SP - Johan Santana (THE ONLY PITCHERS YOU NEED TO KNOW)
SP - Johnny Cueto

So out of these 4, I would keep Santana, Howard, Kinsler, and Hamilton.

HOWEVER, I'm not entirely sure how Kinsler will shape up... Sure people are saying that he's gonna be a top 3 talent in years and years to come, behind Evan Longoria and Adam "Pacman" Jones, but I'm not feeling it. Santana? Well I'm thinking of offering him an alternate offer, in case he doesn't want more pitching, but LOL, come on, who wouldn't want Johan Santana on their team?

ALT OFFER:

MY Ryan Howard, Ian Kinsler, JOSH HAMILTON, (instead of Johan Santana) and Jimmy Rollins

I will not post his team, because these are the two that I am set on getting, as for who I think he'd be dropping? Vlad Guerrero for sure, as he is on the DL with NO timetable in sight and in all honesty, prob. David Aardsma.

So what is y'alls verdict, Fantasy Baseball Cafe? Should I do it? I'd love to have a team with Pujols AND Braun, as well as either Hamilton or Santana as my keeper(s) while I would be making another trade for a 4th one.

Thank you for your time. And Yes, I will Reply in Return. Just Leave A Link.

Braun and Pujols would obviously be nice, but what else do you have for SP. If you say the only ones needed to know are Cueto and Johan. Would you have any SP left at all.

And yeah, I hate dealing with the ones who onl;y trade if they clearly win itt. Obviously that's what everyone's trying to do, but give and take a bit. Almost as bad as the guys who offer 5 decent players for one stud.

I'd have Jurrjens and Maholm as well... the rest are Relief Pitchers so yeah, my "W" would go down, but everything else should remain level.

I wouldn't do the deal. Yers, Pujols & Braun are MVP type players but you would have No pitching. Your team is well blalanced as is and I think your are better off standing pat. Sometimes no deal is the best deal!!!!

Thanks for the help with mine!

Philaphan has it dead on. You are fine the way you are. I wouldn't make the deal. Anyway, it sounds like you are dealing with a kid. if that is the case, you probably will never get much of a realistic offer from him.

Thanks for your help.
