Stephen Drew coming off the DL, cut Cabrera or Alexei?

Postby Lil' Doug Dascenzo » Wed May 13, 2009 10:33 am

Drew's back, and I'm left with a decision about cutting either Asdrubal Cabrera or Alexei Ramirez in order to activate him. Cabrera has been solid so far this season, Alexei not so much.

Thoughts? WHIR.

Who is your current shortstop?
You should also post your roster. I would not drop Cabrera, I'm still kicking myself for not picking him up and if you drop him rest assured he'll be picked up, so how about a trade to get some value back?

I wouldn't drop Ramirez. I'm personally not ready to give up on him. You'll be kicking yourself as soon as he starts hitting the ball because someone will have undoubtedly snatched him up already. I'd keep Drew on your DL for the time being and give him time to round into form a bit with the bat. You might want to start seeing what you can get for Cabrera or Alexei (if you decide to keep Cabrera) via trade in the mean time, maybe package him with another player for an upgrade somewhere.

I doubt you will be able to trade either one of those guys, with people not loving Alexei's poor start and no one believing in Cabrera, especially since I am asssuming you have short/no benches. I would just cut Alexei and don't worry about it. He just isn't there this season. You could shop him for a scrub pitcher or something but I would not try too hard.
