Capps for Burnett?

Postby abstractpoet » Wed May 13, 2009 12:40 am

I've been stockpiling closers and, since I can only start four at once, I'm looking to move one to improve my starting pitching. Should I trade Capps straight up for A.J. Burnett? Or would Rich Harden be a better target? Unfortunately, those are the two best starting pitchers my likely trade partner has; otherwise, I'd try to do a 2 for 1 package. It's a 12 team yahoo H2H, standard rules and categories.

Normally I'd prefer Harden, but in H2H, it seems there's too much risk that he'd be stashed away on my DL by the time the playoffs hit. Other opinions? I already have a tentative agreement with the other manager on Capps for Burnett. Should I pull the trigger?

My roster listed below:

C- Napoli
1B- Votto
2B- Utley
3B- C. Davis
SS- H. Ramirez
OF- C. Lee
OF- Abreu
OF- Werth
Util- Ad. Jones
BN- Weiters

SP- Peavy
SP- Vazquez
RP- Nathan
RP- Francisco
P- Gregg
P- Downs
BN- Shields
BN- Lilly
BN- Meche
BN- Capps
DL- Smoltz

Odds are both SPs get hurt. In a H2H, this may get vetoed unless saves are given a lot of points. Closers aren't that important in most H2H leagues.

I see no reason why this would be vetoed, given that the other owner is really desperate for a closer. Original draft positions aren't TOO far off, and none of these guys have been setting the world on fire (Harden the best of the three so far).

Other thoughts on whether to go ahead with this and on which you'd choose between Burnett and Harden? Other manager is a Cubs fan, though, so maybe getting Harden isn't realistic.
