Encarnacion or wait for Ramirez?

Postby mhowie » Tue May 12, 2009 11:42 pm

NL 4x4 league. I have Encarnacion as one of my 3B...currently on the DL. In my league, if you replace a guy who goes on the DL, you are stuck with his replacement-- so the severity of injuries and the associated length of the DL stint is part of the decision-making behind whether to make a move or not.

Anyway, back to Encarnacion... I have been without him since 4/29 (perhaps a good thing as he was terrible before finally shutting it down due to the wrist injury). He is due back in a couple of weeks. I have an opportunity to claim Aramis Ramirez as a fellow owner just replaced him due to his injury. Ramirez is due back in two months.

My question-- stick with Encarnacion and pick up approx. five weeks of stats vs. claiming Ramirez and waiting until mid-July for his expected return date?

Thanks,

Howie

So if you put someone on the DL you have to play his replacement? Can you clarify?

That is correct. Or, in this instance, I could swap out one guy on the DL (Encarnacion) for another (Ramirez). The remaining pool of 3B (NL only) are is lousy, so it comes down to hanging with Encarnacion and getting his stats upon his return in a 2-3 weeks or swapping for Ramirez and get his stats upon his return (estimated 8 weeks). Assuming both return as scheduled (and don't go on the DL again!), it would essentially be four months of Encarnacion or 2.5 months of Ramirez.

Thanks,
