Texas Rangers play it safe, place Frank Francisco on DLFort Worth Star Telegram, May 16
ARLINGTON — Biceps tendinitis didn’t bother Frank Francisco during a bullpen session in the rain Saturday at Rangers Ballpark, but the Texas Rangers placed their closer on the 15-day disabled list anyway.
The move just makes sense. It is retroactive to May 7, though it wouldn’t have been had the Rangers waited until Monday, and Francisco will be eligible to pitch again Friday at Houston.
He will miss only four more games — the series finale against the Angels today and three at Detroit — and the hope is the extra down time assures that he will be ready for the rest of the season.
"If we had left it 100 percent up to Frankie, he would have pitched," general manager Jon Daniels said. "Could we push it for the Detroit series? Yeah, we probably could. We’ll just play it safe and get Frankie 100 percent ready to go from May 22 until the end of the year."
