jenks for youkilis straightup?!@

Postby sinicalypse » Tue May 12, 2009 7:06 pm

in my main league, 10 team 5x5 roto with extended rosters (MI, CI, some extra pitchers, and an extra OF to make the 10 teams use up the same # of players that 12 teams would use) i've recently had a homerless weekend and over the last week or week and a half watched the glut of middling offensive teams pass up my team, which early on in the year looked to be a pathetic offense but thanks to bigtime starts by aaron hill (who i've had since day one) and cantu and even nelson cruz, i've been able to get off to a quick start, and while my pitching staff manages to hold on to top/near-top spots in points, i've watched my offense get lapped and drop from ~6/10 points to dead last in homers, 3/10 in runs, and last in BA, (while i'm like 4.5 points in SB and 5/10 points in RBI)

edit: to give you an diea of parity... i'm dead last in HRs at 47. 2nd place in HR is 58, with three people at 57, and the guy who just passed me at 50 even. so there's 8 points within 11 HRs of me, henceforth why i ask this question

here's the team

c - kurt suzuki
1b - jorge cantu
2b - aaron hill
ss - asdrubal cabrera
3b - mike lowell
CI - chris duncan (god, where is his power?!@ he's done everything else get on that 30ish HR pace, son)
MI - emmanuel burress (usually uggla but he's been killing my average)
OF - grady sizemore (speaking of killer... he was my first round draft pick in absentia... sigh)
OF - brad hawpe (another guy who needs to be at around 8-9 HR, cuz he's at 4 otherwise it's .330 and 20ish RBIs and 15-20 runs and best player on the rockies)
OF - nelson cruz (he's slowed down, still the 72nd ranked player overall... i should've tried to get j-upton for him str8up earlier)
OF - michael bourn (overall, he's the best SB guy not named crawford, ellsbury, abreu, or nyjer morgan)
util -= nyjer morgan (with spot starting, io've managed to get .220 out of a .300 hitter and only 3 or 4 steals with 9 runs and 3 RBI, tho 10 runs)
bench/2b - dan uggla (i traded daisuke for him in the first week of the season and i need him to be himself soo badly)
bench/OF - pat burrell (if he can get back to that 30ish HR power threat, i just nabbed him off of waivers today as he's been hot lately so where's the power.. i'mma start him tomorrow)
bench/1B/3B - russell branyan (i told myself i'd never take him, then he got up to 6 HR over .300 and was batting cleanup so i get him and he's like 5/30 with 1 HR 1 RBI and killing me. i'm dead last at .260 BA cuz i've spot started so many players who go like 3/20 and i've got 3-4 .280+ hitters hitting less than .225 for me)
DL/OF - vladimir guerrero (god, i need him to come back and be the vlad of 2-3 years ago)
DL/C - ryan doumit (kurt suzuki has given me like .315/1/10 in his stead... not the end of the world)

SP - johan santana, tim lincecum, roy halladay, cole hamels, carlos zambrano (DL), ricky romero (DL), brian bannister (i know... watch him go to like 5.00 ERAdom from 1.98/1.14 and ill cry) and brett cecil (ricky romero v2.0 as far as i'm concerned)
RP - bobby jenks, kevin gregg, frank francisco, troy percival, carlos marmol

i'm first in saves by one save, and there's a guy at 26 with 4 closers, and there's 3 teams at 21 and one of them has 4 closers, the other have 3...

i got offered youk straightup for jenks, and i should've left the trade up while i countered with youk bengie molina (he has v-martinez catching... bengie molina is perma-benched on his squad) and bj ryan for jenks, branyan, and kurt suzuki

the question is, if you were me and a homerless weekend and power draught for like a week have taken you from 6/10 in HR to dead last in HR, while runs and BA have also cost you another ~7-8 points combined, do you trade jenks and risk losing like 1-4 points in saves to get youkilis for this squad!?@

link me to your stuff and i'll answer

i would deal jenks for youk. Maybe wait a couple days until youk gets back to the lineup. he has good BA, Power, rbi's, but wont make a huge splash. You may have to trade linceum or santana to make a huge difference

one more thing to point out... the guy who i'd be trading jenks to is dead last in saves and has no chance of making a run on me

I'd do it. New closers will present themselves throughout the year. Just keep your eye on the wire.

My only caveat is to read up on Youkilis first to make sure his injury isn't serious (I don't think it is).

my dumbass canceled his request of the straightup thing and offered jenks k-suzukio and branyan for youk b-molina (who he has perma benched with v-mart catching) and bj ryan (i'm first in saves and dont wanna lose too much there)

odds are i'mma go back and do this tho... i just want more opinion

Do it. You can always scrounge saves on the waver wire through injuries etc. if necessary.

The injury to Youkilis is not that serious (Red Sox fan here).

well i should've left his trade offer to me up so i coulda took it... but i re-offered jenks for youk and bj ryan, to see if i can get bj ryan as well.

if all else fails, i'll go with teh straightup offer and hope the guy goes for it. i hope i didnt blow this one cuz i need offense badly

I would do send the deal of Jenks for Youk straight up! You would win on that one. You can always find saves later on!

Please help me!
