My A.Soriano for A.Rod - Keeper league

Postby the izzy » Tue May 12, 2009 12:33 pm

10 team, H2H Keeper League. 7x7 w/ OPS, H being the extra hitting categories (k/9 and QS are the pitching).

I give: A. Soriano
I get: A. Rodriguez

Ok, this is a first year keeper league w/ friends. we lose the rd that we drafted the player in, so if I keep Soriano, I would lose my 3rd rd pick next year, as that's the rd I drafted him in. ARod was drafted in the 5th rd.

This seems like a great deal for me. Even if ARod is getting old, only giving up a 5th rd pick to keep him next year seems like great value. And I'm in need of a 3B since ARam is out probably a month.

My team:

C: Napoli
1B: Pujols
2B: B. Roberts
3B: Teahen
SS: Tulo
OF: Soriano
OF: J. Bruce
OF: J. Upton
UTIL: Prince
BN: Ordonez (OF), N. Cruz (OF), A. Hill (2B), Vlad Guerrero (OF)
DL: Aramis Ramirez (3B)

I would agree that the trade seems like it makes sense for you. Your backfill for Soriano is Cruz and that seems better for your team than Teahan backing up ARam. I'd go for it. Although I'd temper the power numbers for ARod this year, an expect only 20 to 25 HR's.

Seems like a pretty smart trade based on your league and your depth at OF. But having two third basemen after Aram returns it might be best to try and deal one of them then.

I would do it in a second. A-Rod is in such great shape that a 34 year old A-Rod is not your typical player. The hip should be a random thing. Soriano always seems to have injuries and that should increase as he gets older. Do it before he pulls it back.
