Matt Holliday's value

Postby milkshake » Mon May 11, 2009 2:36 pm

I can't really hit this one on the head he will obviously at some point regain some sort of above average starters ability. But will it come once he leaves Oakland will it possibly come with Oakland? What SP would you go after with Matt Holliday? I got one guy who wants K Rod and Holliday to even consider trading Peavy. He's in 1st place i'm in 5th. Do you always trade a RP even if he's just as good as the SP to get the SP?

No way on that deal. He's in first, so he's gotta think that he has to get a clear, unquestionable upgrade to mess with a good thing. I don't think Holliday will 100% get better. He seems to be the perfect example of Coors making a hitter. I think that right now, he's gone from top-5 to around top-25. Instead of comparing him to guys like Sizemore and Manny, he's more like McLouth and Rios.

Holliday wil get it going and be the player of the week this week or next week. Hes to good of a player to suck this bad day in and out.

I'd agree with the above with one caveat. Oakland is a notorious pitcher's park and there is a legitimate possibility that Oakland will trade Holliday prior to the deadline. If this happens, he'd likely go to a more hitter-friendly park (and probably a better line-up). That said, I'd value him at around a 4th-5th round pick right now, depending on how optimistic you're being, which is right around guys like Rios, McLouth, etc.
