Should I be entertaining this trade?

Postby Hitchcock » Mon May 11, 2009 2:01 pm

I've sent it off and right now kinda negotiating to see what they want for BJ Upton... but here's the outline:

My team: 8 team 5x5roto, 5 keepers (yes deep bench we must carry backup for each position)indicates keeper
C: C. Ianetta, K. Suzuki, J. PosadaDL
1B: C. Davis, G. Atkins
2B: D. Pedroia, O. Hudson
3B: E. Longoria, M. Lowell
SS: J. Rollins, A. Callaspo
OF: Markakis, A. Jones, R. Ibanez, J. Bruce, J. Upton, N. Reimold, J. HamiltonDL

SP: Billingsly, Bedard, Gallardo, Wainwright, J. Zimmerman, Verlander, Garza, Kershaw, B.Bergusen, K. EscobarDL
RP: Rivera, Broxton, Percival, S. Downs.

The trade offer I sent was:
J. Upton and J. Verlander
for
BJ Upton (one of his keepers)

I'm in first by a good size margin and the only catagory I'm lacking in is, SB. I've had Verlander benched past three starts (I KNOW!!!) so I feel I don't even need him. The other team wants it to be Upton for Billingsly straight up, but I dont want to give him up. Right now A. Jones/J. Bruce/C. Davis is slated to be my 5th keeper this year w/ dropping Rollins (so I feel I can give up an OF no prob.).

Should I stand pat, just give em' Billingsly only, or what?
Leave a link to yours and I'll comment on it.

LOL, no. Verlander appears back, and Justin's playing better than B.J. and is seen as having more power and upside.

like you said you need speed. depending on how many OF you start, losing j.upton is no big deal. Verlander has come back strong though.

here's what i'd offer:

reimold + verlander for b.upton
j.upton + garza for b.upton

if both those fail i'd go to your original proposal, thought i think you're paying a higher price than needs be. But BJ will soon be back to form.

We start 3 of's and a DH. I'm usually starting Markakis, Adam Jones and Raul Ibanez (until late: Platooning Upton, Bruce and Ibanez) and DH's Lowell for the RBI's.

I don't see me moving Reimold (I only picked him up to cockblock a friend of mine from picking any Orioles up lol :-D hence Brad Bergusen as well) and I doubt he'll settle for Garza but will try. He keeps asking for Billingsly but that's not happening, esp. for Upton.

reimold + verlander for b.upton
j.upton + garza for b.upton

either of these would be a steal

I am not a big fan of BJ Upton - for some reason he is injury prone and always seems to disappoints expectations up to this point

To be honest I would ride out both Justins hot streaks until BJ shows some signs of life other than SBs. Justin Upton could very well end up having a better year than his brother (long shot I know), but if you have a need in sbs I would try and get him but for less than you are offering him. Thanks for the help.
