J.Upton a FA in Keeper!! Who the heck to drop?? WHIR

Postby pre1322 » Mon May 11, 2009 12:08 pm

Justin Upton and Ryan Theriot are FAs in my 10 team H2H keeper league. We keep 8 this year, and next year we add a CI, a MI, another OF and UTIL, another P spot and a couple extra BN spots. The question is...who can I afford to drop?

Scoring: 6x6 with HLDs and OPS added
C: Chris Iannetta
1B: Joey Votto
2B: Rickie Weeks
3B: Mark Teahen
SS: Jimmy Rollins
OF (3): Ryan Braun, Carlos Lee, Nick Markakis
UTIL: Matt Kemp
BN: Chris Davis, Mark DeRosa
DL: Aramis Ramirez, Ryan Doumit

SP (3): Zack Greinke, James Shields, Dan Meyer (SP/RP for HLDs)
RP (2): Jonathan Broxton, Francisco Cordero
P (2): Heath Bell, Rafael Soriano
BN: Yovani Gallardo, Francisco Liriano, Adam Wainwright

The choice on the surface is Teahen, but he has been filling in better at 3B than Davis has, due to a much better AVG. Will Davis be fine until ARam returns, or will I have to keep Teahen? Theriot would fill in admirably for Rollins until Jimmy heats up, if he does (looking to trade him). What to do? Upton in a keeper is tasty, not to mention his incredible hot streak...

Leave your link, I will be glad to help out ;-D

Davis or DeRosa or Teahan, but do it now. I would say teahan, but just get upton and worry about a fill in 3b later!

I would drop Teahen in a heartbeat. Davis will have more R, HR, RBI than Teahen will.

And Davis is hitting .264 in May and .375 in his last 5 games. Your choice is easy. Even more so in a keeper.

good luck

DeRosa or Teahen are the drops here, but frankly I don't see Upton making your 8-player cut. Are you really going to keep him over, say, Greinke, Gallardo, Shields, Liriano, Rollins, Braun, Carlos Lee, Markakis, Kemp, Aramis, and then your weaker potential keepers, votto, doumit, and chris davis? I think moving on with Braun, Rollins, Carlos Lee, Markakis, Kemp, Aramis, Greinke and Gallardo would be beastly. Can't see where Justin Upton breaks that list at all.

I would cut Meyer for right now and punt holds for now. You can get them later. This will buy you some time to see how your team is going to do and it will allow you time to trade for a 3b.

Try doing a 2 for 1 and picking up a better MRP than Meyer.

Oops, was focusing on Teahen vs. Davis...you could also drop Derosa. But, don't drop Davis!

Wouldn't drop Davis at all...reached way too much for him in the draft (big mistake). It's between Teahen, DeRosa and maybe Meyer, although my HLDs are limited by the fact that they have to be SP,RP eligible due to my glut of CL; so Meyer is my best choice.

Getting Upton would at least allow me to dangle an OF with Rollins and maybe get Hanley+, who's owner already nearly agreed to Rollins/Doumit for Hanley before the injury and has expressed interest in my OF.

I like DeRosa's multi eligibility, and I suppose I could flip flop DeRosa and Davis based on the hot hand until Aramis returns. I think Teahen gets the axe. What about Theriot? Is he worth it, or wait until Rollins comes around?

Drop Teahan now and get Upton before it's too late!!!! Davis will work things out and get things going. Plus if Upton is out there on the FA wire, then I'm sure there are other decent 3B options on your wire as well.
