Berkman for Sabathia

Postby BluePhog » Mon May 11, 2009 6:42 am

12 Team 5x5, Keep 10.

My hitting is doing pretty well, I have 52 out of 60 points. My pitching is at 32 out of 60, mainly struggling because of WHIP (6 pts), ERA (2), and Wins (4).

I've been offered Sabathia for Berkman and some spare change that doesn't matter to me.

My pitching staff now is good, just underperforming, and I get Lackey back soon.

Peavy
Lackey
Volquez
Vazquez
Dempster
Cecil
Zimmermann
Smoltz

I would be replacing Berkman (my UTIL now b/c Delgado could move to 1B) with either Bourn (I need some SB) or Jacobs or Melky Cabrera.

The rest of my lineup is:
Mauer
Delgado
Hudson
Reyes
Youk
Bay
Beltran
Dunn
Swisher

Should I just wait for my pitching staff to settle in (and Lackey to improve) or make the deal to get Sabathia?

Thanks and WHIR if you have a link.

Tough call.......
Berkman is cold right now but you can pretty much count on him for 30 HR 300 AVG 100 RBIS
However, Sabathia is a workhorse stud ace pitcher
Seeing as your pitching is strong already, and you'd have to replace Berkman with Delgado, I can't say I'd do the trade, Delgado IS NOT gonna have a year like last year, whereas Berkman is a stud off to a slow start and sore wrist

Your call though

I think I would keep what you have. Berkman is very consistent usually, this start from him has surprised me mightily. You pitching will turn around and be better for you than making that deal I think. I have a feeling CC will be very frustrating this year pitching games at new Yankee Stadium...

Thanks for your help ;-D

If you know you can use one of your other marginal SP for a 1b upgrade I might be inclined to do this deal. If he has wrist issues that could be a problem all year either with pain or with performance. Adding CC would pretty much put your staff at the top of the league.

Swisher, Dunn, Delgado can all play 1b. All are solid. Bourn needs to be in your lineup to give you some runs and sbs. Any one of those 3 are comparable to Berk. I don't see this wrist issue being over that soon (even when it clears up). When Berkman started having wrist issues last year he wasn't ever the same.

Maybe I'm in the minority (and I believe in bat over arm) I'd make this deal.

Then try to flip one of your back end starters with something (Dunn/Delgado) for a 1b upgrade.

Delgado might be an old man, but he keeps that notebook and studies the game. He's been solid when healthy. He's underrated a 270/30/100 season outta him is not outta the question especially considering he's been producing this year compared to last year..

Repost your roster with starting positions and bench seperate and then also post up some FAs.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!
